Poll: What was your very first car?
I am just curious to hear peoples responses. My first car was an orange 1979 Ford Pinto that I bought for $100 when I was 14. I traded it for a tan 1969 Ford F-100 before I even had my license, so really the truck was the first car that I drove.

A 1973 Vega GT. It was white with a black stripe down the center (like a reversed skunk). I couldn't go faster than 45 mph, because the oil would back up through the line, drip on the manifold, and catch on fire. I had to carry a fire extinguisher in the back seat.
It would burn a quart of oil a week. But, it would burn it all at one time, so when I stepped on the gas it looked like I'd hit the 'smokescreen' button on the Batmobile. So embarrassing!
The hatchback wouldn't stay open on its own, so I had to use a tomato plant stake to prop it open.
But, the A/C ran at about 35 degrees, and that was nice in the summer!

I had a 1961 Ford Falcon that I bought when I was 15 and at the time, it was older than I was. The first clue that there might be issues with it was a new paint job put on a car that old, but being 15, I didn't have a clue...paid $200 and put about $800 more into it over the next 6 month before I decided to part ways with it permanently.
It left me stranded in so many places I cannot count, most of which got me into a lot of trouble and grounded weekly because I wasn't suppossed to be there in the first place. The worst place was out of town two blocks in another town 50 miles from home that was known to not accept people of my color and even rumored to have torched and killed them just for the fun of it.
The final straw was when the tire rod broke and it slammed into, of all places, the Chief of Police's mailbox and one of his snotty rug rats were laughing and called his Dad (this was in the day before cell phones) and said "Dad, you got to come home, so girl just creamed our mailbox!"
Only thing that worked consistenly and well in that car was the heater.

My first car was a 50 chevy two door sedan I bought in 1956 for $65. Got rid of it in 57 and bought a 51 Merc Ragtop. The chev wasn't much more than basic transportation but the Merc was one of the best road cars I ever owned. Wish I still owned it. The car I loved the most was a 40 La Salle Coupe I bought in 62, restored and drove until I went to 'Nam in 66. I have fully restored 65 & 68 Mustangs now, which I swap in a minute for that La Salle.

I got my license when I was 17 but got a job at 16 to save up for a car that I paid for myself. It (like you) was a 1979 Ford Pinto. Wow, what a small world! I currently drive a Dodge Durango to accomodate my 3 kids.

My first vehicle is a 1993 Chevrolet Silverado. I bought it when I was 14. I have driven it hard and it is still running well. I have replaced the transmission once but everything else is original. It currently has 270,000 miles on it. It has been an awesome truck for me.

1976 AMC Pacer, a hand-me-down from my dad. When I finally got rid of it around 1990, both doors were falling off and every knob, lever, and crank was broken. Along with the speedometer and radio. On the plus side- the huge bubble-like windows and fold down rear seat made it a hit at drive-in movies.
