    not sure this is helpful but there is not ( absolutely positive )

    you could say 4356000 sq ft ( lol )

    the standard terms are based on the section ( square mile ) so they go 640 320 160 80 40 20 10 5 2.5 ( 330 x 330 ) acres ( plus some survey terms based on the 'chain' and other oddballs )

    and a HECTARE is 10,000sq METERS

    Source(s): extensive web search - thought there SHOULD BE !

    640 acres = 1 square mile, to answer the question tho, 100 acres = 1 hectare (ha.) {an abbreviation, not a laugh! :)}

    the term you are looking for is the old anglo-saxon 'hide' Contrary to popular belief it did not represent a fixed area of land but the area which ploughed by a team of (four) oxen would yield a given amount of corn. Obviously this varied from county to county and even took into account the fertility and quality of the soil. The 'Domesday Booke' attempted to account for this with a view to suggesting how yields may have been improved

    Why do you keep talking about income tax? You don't pay income tax on a gift. Or if you sell a capital item that you bought. If it was a gift, then your basis is whatever your grandmother's basis was, plus any gift tax she paid but I think you said in one of your many earlier questions that she filed a gift tax return but didn't actually owe any gift tax. If it was a purchase, then your basis is the $500 you paid. Either way, the tax when you sell would be capital gains tax on the sale price minus your basis. Special rules for transactions between related parties shouldn't affect you here.

    No but it is the same size as 1,000 cricket squares (i.e., 22 x 22 yards) so could be called a kilosquare!

    Note- the hide was variable and always smaller- about a third of the area maximum.

  • no, just call it 100 acres.
