It depends on what the dress is for the wedding. If it is a tuxedo then yes, it is acceptable.

I think more and more people are getting away from the cumberbunds and just doing a more classic sophisticated look. Although, it depends on your preferance and how formal the occasion.

Very Formal Day Wedding

-- Traditionally this takes place between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and the traditional dress is a morning suit. A morning suit is a long jacket with wide tails at the back (in black or grey). Accessories are usually a white shirt, ascot and vest.

Formal Day Wedding

-- A stroller jacket (long jacket) in black or grey with matching pants. Accessories would be a white shirt with a vest and ascot or a white shirt with a tie and cumberbund.

Informal Daytime Wedding

-- A dark suit, preferably black or grey, double breasted, with a white shirt and tie are fine.

Very Formal Evening

-- A shawl collar tux in black or white with all your accessories matching is appropriate. An elegant touch would be white gloves.

Formal Evening Wedding

-- A dark coloured tux with matching accessories

Be sure, above all else, that you are comfortable with your choice and how it looks on you because you're gonna get your picture taken over, and over, and over again!!

You can wear it if:

the wedding party will be in evening attire. You don't want to be more "dressed" than the groom.

Can I suggest a vest instead? It's more clean and modern looking. My experience with the cummerbund is that it looks a little Prom-ish, and also, if the man has a little bit of a belly (not saying you do) it tends to ride down under the belly. If you have your heart set on the cummerbund, make sure it matches the tux. Meaning if your tux is black, it should be black also. Nothing looks cheesier than a colored cummerbund.

It is proper, especially since typically at weddings the grooms party and the father wear Tuxedos. You should talk with your daughter, as she may want you to match what the grooms side is wearing and they may have vests instead of cumberbunds (I actually perfer vests as you can take off the jacket and still look really polished, whereas a cumberbund looks a little goofy without the jacket)

I think they are out of style. Vests and tie or bowtie are much more stylish nowadays. But if you choose to were a cumberband, yes, its perfectly acceptible for hte father of the bride to dress up, regardless of attire for wedding. I know my father has worn tuxes to both of my brothers weddings.

I think it is perfectly fine. I love the way it looks. Nothing better than a sharply dressed man!

If you are this concerned..ask your daughter what she thinks... it is her wedding. Sounds like you love her an awful lot to be going to this much trouble. :)

Not only is it acceptable, it is a very formal look. I would make my decision depending on how formal or casual the wedding itself is.

No one uses cummerbunds anymore. Now people wear button-down vests, which look very nice.
