Wireless Networking. I have a Netgear wireless router, and I need to get a stronger signal?

I have investigated this for you,

The Samsung Q20 Laptop (standard version) has a 802.11b internal centrino adapter which cannot have a signal greater than

11Mbps. Its the laptop letting you down not the router.

Netgear are quite good as are Linksys and 3Com, though Linksys are from the Cisco stable so you are on to a winner with Linksys anyway.

If you get a Wireless PCMCIA Card or USB Wireless Adapter rated at 802.11b/g or g+ or mimo/g+ then you will get extended coverage and better throughput.

Peter. It's quite simple. If you are a long way from the wireless router then of course the signal strength will be low.Just a wall or a change of floor levels will affect signal greatly regardless of the Make of router. If you cannot move closer either way then a signal repeater is easy to install. Try changing channels first though on your laptop and router to see if any improvement can be made.

You need a wireless attenna. Try searching for Net Gear Accessories on Google. With the antenna you can gain about 50 to 60 feet in distance away from the router. If you have cable in every room move the router. If that isn't an option you will have to install an antenna.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this. Make sure that the antenna on your router is oriented perpendicular to the line between the router and your laptop. Practically this just means that if you're on the same level as the router, place the antenna vertically. If say the router is in a basement and you're above it, rotate the antenna into horizontal position. It won't make a huge difference, but may improve things a little bit.

Routers work by giving out a signal which is unfortunately absorbed by lots of stuff around the house.

The worst one is water. If you have yourself between the laptop and the router, you could be absorbing most of the signal! Try turning yourself around (ie- your laptop is first in line from your router) which might help the problem. also, keeping doors open between you and the router should also help.

Forget Netgear and go for a Linksys system, Linksys G. It will show a noticeable difference. If the distance is an issue, Linksys has a range expander for a cheap price. Netgear is not good, IMO

The router has to give out and recieve signals, so having walls nd ova obstacles in da way will make the connection poor

yea man i had a link-sys router and i used link-sys range expander all u have to do is find the a range booster or expander and place it on the edge of ur network and ur good to go bro.... And u already kno it.......lol.....
