Who was the guy who showed up at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest?

Barbosa. The first mate who stole the black pearl from Captain Jack in the first movie. He was then Captain Barbosa. That's why the monkey was with him when he came down those stairs... and remember he loved apples? He couldn't eat them when Elizabeth was on the pirate ship and she was eating in front of him... so he ate an apple when he came down the stairs.

He was the Captain from the first movie. The captain was the Owner of the monkey. He and Capt Jack had an issue. Not mentioned much (the issues) in the earlier movie but apparently he and Jack Sparrow are nemesis, but both are good captains. He was the one who stole the Black Pearl from Jack Sparrow. And thus he's the only other person who was able to captain the Black Pearl. He was also the one who gave the orders to leave Jack and Elizabeth to die stranded on an island. Jack had vow that the one bullet left in his gun will be used to killed the captain, which Capt Jack shot at the end of the movie. In the first movie the Captain and his crew ( Two of which are in the Sequel - the two that decided to steal the chest while Capt Jack, William and Norrington was fighting) was cursed as the 'walking dead' until all the gold was returned. How he got back from the dead, maybe that would be explained in the third installemnt. But many questtions still lurks. Perhaps there will be more than just a trilogy.

It's Captain Barbosa, the 1st mate who led the Mutiny and took over the Black Pearl--He was dead at the end of the first movie, and it is suggested that he went through the turmoil that Jack Sparrow must go through in the third film.

He was Captain Barbossa. He stole the Black Pearl from Jack Sparrow in the first movie. I think the people who insulted your inteligence are very rude and should consider the possibility that you really weren't sure who he was. I hope this is very helpful to you.
