they still notify you through email if you get best answers. i also get that message when i log on even if i know ive already earned the points. one reason could be is that when you log to yahoo what your browser opens is just the page that was cached into your computer and is not yet the updated page. this happens to me when i use a slower PC or have a slow internet connection. i would know that the page is just from cached when my total points is not updated. what i do is just press F5 or refresh button to get the updated page.

P.S.: I just found out why i don't automatically get updated page

go to Tools-->Internet Options--.> Under General Tab click Settings of Temporary internet files-> choose "automatically under "check for newer version of stored pages'
