I usually send invites for my kids parties (I have 4 children) about one month in advance with an RSVP date 1 week before the party. With mailed invitations you could either
a: simply address it to the child's name... eg. Johnny Brown
b: use the old fashioned way of addressing a boy... eg.
Master Johnny Brown
c: use something that suits your party theme ... eg. a buzz lightyear party - Space Cadet Johnny Brown

I always send them out 1 to 2 weeks in advance. Any more than that they have a chance at forgetting it. And I agree with the other two about how to address the boys. Those are very cute.

I say two weeks' notice is enough. The envelope should be addressed to Master Firstname Lastname.
