    first off lets get the area of the square

    a=(w+5)(w+5)

    =w^2+10w+25

    now we get the area of the rectangle

    r=(w+2)(w-3)

    =w^2-w-6

    and subtract the areas

    a(remaining)=a-r

    =(w^2+10w+25)-(w^2-w-6)

    =11w+31

    and that is the area that is left

    Find the areas by multiplying out length times width by FOIL

    (w+5)(w+5)

    (w+2)(w-3)

    Then subtract the second answer from the first. be sure to subtract all three terms; that is, change all three terms' signs before combining like terms.
