Why are Christians so hateful?

Your religion claims to teach respect and peace. Yet any time some one has a different view than you, you resort to ad-hominem arguments and suggesting vengeance in the form of damnation. Some one disagrees with Christianity and instead of enlightening them you crucify them. What happened to practicing the teaches you follow? Surely "God" wouldn't want you to act in this way.

Then there's the fact that science has offered more answers about our world than the book ever has. Instead of finding answers to problems you retort the same cliche "God musta dun it".

So my question to you is, why are Christians practicing hate when they preach peace? What led to this hypocrisy?

Please answer with thoughtful, intelligent answers that will enlighten me, rather than proving my point. I would like to practice Christianity but I find it increasingly naive to do so.

Sometimes Christians forget that it is more important to love a person than it is to prove a point. People get wrapped up in a question or an argument and lose sight of the bigger goal; to love your neighbor as yourself. And then there are ignorant Christians who probably believe in God and the Bible but don't know why, and when confronted with those who seek answers, they get defensive rather than helpful. I also believe that there are many who identify themselves as Christians because they go to church or because their Mom was one or something; but they don't actually have a personal relationship with Jesus.

I'm sorry that you haven't encountered enough caring Christians. Jesus said that the path (to Heaven) was wide but the gate was narrow and there would be few who entered in. One thing that tells me is that there are many who call themselves Christians who probably aren't.

You don't have to jump through hoops to become or live the life of a Christian. It isn't about a list of things you must not do. It's not a boring or sheltered lifestyle. It's about accepting that sin separated us from a holy God; and that Jesus bridged that gap so that we might be able to be in God's presence if we choose. He doesn't force this on us and we shouldn't try to ram it down anyone's throat.

As far as answers about our world, well that will take more indepth study for you if you are really interested. Just a quicky example is in Isaiah 40:22 it says that God sits enthroned above the circle of the earth. This was when the consensus at the time was that the world was flat. Jesus told his disciples to put a little wine in their water. Why? Perhaps because He knew it would kill harmful germs. There are many, many answers from a Christian standpoint as to how the earth was formed and how animal and human life came to be. Just as secular scientists sometimes disagree, Christians sometimes do as well. So study and keep asking questions and decide what you believe.

I hope you find what you need. I read the first 2 answers and I am embarrased and upset that they would respond that way to someone seeking to learn about their faith. Please don't let people turn you away from the truth.

By saying you would like to practice christianity, I asume you mean, love, peace, respect, the virtures that you mentioned. These things of course are niether hateful nor naive, and niether is christianity.

I suppose some Christians behave in ungodly ways because they feel threatened or defensive, and they forget what Jesus taught. I know how that works, I've been there. I don't want to make excuses for any such mistakes. I'm sorry that people get the wrong idea of what being a Christian means. For me it is the greatest joy I know to have a relationship with the all loving Jesus. I would wish it for anyone. God as given me eyes to see the beauty of all His creations. Every plant, animal, person, the bright day, the starlit night all are gifts and are reminders of how He can create goodness in any situation.

I could ramble on and on about the biblical teachings of the gospel but I'm sure you have heard the story before. I will say only that I believe it all and have been a Christian for many years. I've been through so many ups and downs it amazes me sometimes. I have never once felt the God wasn't always right there with me. I know His love is truly eternal, and I don't think I'm naive in saying so .

As for the hypocrisy of christians, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for every nonbeliever who has been turned off by bad examples. I hope my words will somehow enlighten you like you asked but evern if they don't, remember this one thing. Jesus loves you. He did all that He did for that reason. Pray to Him. He will show you who He really is and what a follower of Him really should be. I wish you all the best. God Bless you.

    >>> People you gotta ask yourself why we keep getting people who come on here with the attitude of ridicule, yet expecting answers, when they really don't want an answer at all.

If you answer, they don't want to hear it. If you try and explain, you get told you're being long winded. If you defend your faith, you get told you're forcing it on them. If you say anything, you're told it's ****....

So really what do you wish to hear? But i'll give my view anyway, though I am well aware you'll slam it as with any other answer you get and will ridicule.

If the world was created by God and not by a random explosion, which many believe (this includes top scientists also, so don't start preaching it's a religion for the retarded ok?) isn't it then logical, if one believes that, to also believe that an unlimited God with superior intelligence, might have the ability to know all things and be aware of His own creation?.

If you have a problem with the idea of creation, then you should also have a problem with the idea of an explosion, and if our belief is ludicrous, then OH ****, the idea of random chance processes being able to produce life, balance, nature, seasons, food, water, oxygen, gravity, the genetic code, pro-creation, is just outright ridiculous.

If you wish to ridicule someone else's belief, expect the same back as I can almost guarantee you're an evolutionist, with the idea that though it's a "theory" somehow in your mind it's a fact, even though it's an unproven one

Somebody got up on the wrong side of the rock . I'm wondering what this question is supposed to be a distraction from now ? And somebody else complains because President Bush hugged someone . Gee ,what a rude thing for a so-called hating Christian. Where were your comments when Bill Clinton was running in and out of black churches to get votes ? Oh then it was OK to be a Christian ? Give me a break .

If you feel yourself to be better than Christians , think whatever you like - but know that you are the only one who cares about your cheap ego boost . I find it increasingly naive of you to think we can't see it as a pitch for your miserable ego . You'll never find joy in causing others pain .

Not all of them are hateful. Some of them come across strong because they know the truth and want to see everyone saved from eternal torments of brimstone and fire in hell. I am a born again Christian but I don't act hateful towards others, but the truth can hurt some people especially if they are not saved. Before I was saved about a year ago, I had a mind of my own and thought I knew it all, when in all reality I was headed for hell. It took my in-laws about a year to convince me, and they had alot of patience with me. Today I am a born again Christian and I am very happy. I have been convicted alot and even still, the truth hurts me like when I was told my favorite rock groups were satanic (Led Zeppelin and Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Oyster Cult, and others) and I made the choice to throw them away. Not only did the truth hurt, but I was very disappointed. Now I am happy to not have satans music in my collection, although I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the music a little still. Not the lyrics, the music! We Christians are taught that if someone offends us we are to walk away and not bother them. These verses are in the Bible and every Christian who reads it knows this. They are:

    Matthew 10:12-15

    Matthew 10:22

Well, I hope I answered your question and I am not a mean Christian, I just tell the truth.

Not only Christians, but just about every one who call them self good practicing believers. They will go to heaven and I will not. They are right and I'm wrong, how do they know? I mean, Take a closer look they can't all be right. They are from different religions. And only one of there religions will make it to Heaven. Now your answer. Religion is a form of brain washing. That is also why they do things that has no grounds to stand on (In the name of religion)

Please remember that everyone is human even Christians. When humans are in the mix sometimes they can be prideful or take defense to opposition. It is not right for a Christian to be hateful. God is Love and that is exactly what Christians should practice. Sometimes Christians can be over zealous, but don't let that stop you from trying to get closer to God, remember we are human and God is God. If the Christians that you pose your questions to do not treat you with respect, love and gentleness, find one that will. There are many wolves dressed in sheep's clothing. In other words everyone that calls Lord, Lord is not of the Lord. May God bless you with the answer that you are seeking.

I meet many loving, peaceful Christians every day. Where are you hanging around?

The Bible contains the science of that time. So it depends what answers you are looking for.

If you are seriously wanting to practice Christianity first thing you better change is arrogant behavior.

And better to work on your "enlightenment" yourself with the help of the holy Spirit.

Im a christian, i also dislike the attitude of some of fellow christians, they tends to be too eager for debate or giving too much attention to the petty issues or trivias. just to show people they know more about the bible.

but i guess being a christian, it is not how much verses you can memories, or how good one can debate.

i realized true christians show themselve they are christian by the way they live.

i agree with you in some points. but surely it doesn't means

it would makes christianity a fake or what.

it is only about how much they experience with christ. the more they experience of christ, the more they become like christ.

what you see, are the christian under work-in-progress.

they are being mold by the Lord. if they fall short in some ways. God would understand, and that's where comes the "mercy and grace".

    You are right!

    ------------------

Christians in general are *hateful* these days|

Perhaps 60-70% are Bonafide hypocrites (in some areas it is 95%+)

It is a bad problem now|

The genuine ones are in a minority|

I will tell you how bad it really is|

The Catholic Church in town that I used to go to is filled with the worst scum of the earth| (there are only a small number of good people there now).

And what is actually worse - and this will blow your mind - the priest there is not a real priest|

What he did when he came from the States to Canada is that he forged all the documents saying that he was ordained in such and such a place and arranged the confirming phone call.

He is simulating a Mass, but of course there is no valid sacrament there|

He has the whole parish fooled|

They think he is the best thing since Dean Martin, but what people have forgotten is that they don't go to Mass to be entertained but to partake of the Sacred Mysteries|

Also he comes across as a really nice guy, but he is the most cruel and conniving bastard that I have ever seen in my life. He is a Bonafide bully|

But he is so slick and clever that he can do this subtly so that no one sees it but the victim|

The man is a sick puppy!!!

Our whole Catholic Church, world-wide, is in ruins|

There still are valid Masses and absolutions in confession, but you have to be able to sort out the real from the fake|

But we are consoled in knowing that a priest can be in the deepest mortal sin (as most are now), but when he says the words of consecration, bread and wine turn into the Body and the Blood of Christ, and when he says "I absolve you" your sins are forgiven|

For the priest has this power in virtue of his office, not his holiness|

Anyways, the Church is now in a state of Crucifixion, so that it can Rise Gloriously in the New Era of Peace which is to come|
