What's wrong with my jade plant? Crackly white on leaves.?
Several jade plants at our office have a weird sort of flaky white film on the leaves. It has cracks in it... not sure if the cracks are the film, or the leaves themselves.
We don't think it's mildew since the office is extremely dry, and it's more like mica flakes than white powder.
They probably don't get enough light, but could that be the cause?

Sounds like it might be some kind of scale, not sure though. Try cleaning it of witha very mild soap and water solution. You might try to wipe the leaves off with a light sallad oil. No kidding. That should work whether or not it is scale.

I have had that on some terracotta pots before... Do you live where the water is hard? That may have something to do with it. Also, take a look at the way you water... from the bottom, letting it soak? or from the top over the leaves?
