Why do my bamboo plants die all the time?
Hi there,
Quick question: My bamboo plants keep dying all the time. I don't know why. They have water and everything. I buy them nice and green, they last for several months and then they suddenly for no reason start turning yellow, and then later black. Then they just sort of die off. Almost looks like they dried out, but that's impossible, cause they always have water in the pot. And it's always only one or two bamboos out of a bunch of them, like 20 bamboos and 3 start turning yellow. Why is that? Does anyone else have same problem? Please, advise. Tks.

I have bamboos all over the house. I have them in vases of water filled on the bottom with stones or glass marbles. I fill the vase up with water up to the level of the marbles, which is usually about i/10 of the way up the plant. The water gets deeper as the plant grows. Change the water periodically by running fresh water into the vase.
Are you sure that you have indoor plants. Outdoor bamboo is almost indestructible. Once they take root and begin to grow, they become quite invasive and will spread unstoppable, unless you bomb them
Hope this helps.

Well, maybe you had it set in the sun or in a hot room temperature. I had a huge bamboo plant and it last for a long time. You metion that you water your plant weekly, my suggestion is to water your plant everyday with drinking water and put drops of food vitamin once every two days. They sell it in the 99 cent stores or where they sell natural water by the gallons. If that doesn't work then ask someone from the plant nursery for advice. Good luck.

Someone else gave you the correct answer. Use bottled water, not chlorinated water. Chlorine will kill it. Also, change the water every 3 weeks.

Is it possible someone you know is purposely killing them as a joke?... People believe they bring good luck (if in 3's) and it would be a 'good joke' (in some folks eyes) to poison one on a friend to see the reaction...

Try using distilled water, and change the water out every month or so. Also, keep them out of direct sunlight- they may be getting too much sun.
