I woulddn't buy a salvage title car. It has been badly wrecked, or water damage or something not good. Why even attempt to register and drive it? Not worth it.

Most states have their own rules about salvage titles. Some states are stricter than others to get the vehicle fixed to meet their standards. And it is the same with registering it. Each state has their own regulations about what they will register and what they won't register. Check with your states motor vehicle to see what you need to do to register it. One more thing, there are states even if the vehicle has passed their inspection, will always have a spot on the title that notes it is a salvage vehicle. It is not a salvage title anymore, but it notes it on the title that it was previously salvaged so anyone who buys it is aware of it. In my opinion it is harder to pass the inspection to get it on the road. And once the title has that "s" on it, if you live in an inspection state, they could be a little more rigid too.

First you need to find out why it was salvaged. Sometimes insurance companies salvage a car because it can not be put back together at a reasonable cost . Sometimes the car is savaged by them because it was in a flood, theft recovery, fire(even a minor one),but most the time after it was wrecked badly.

If the car has been repaired to a safe degree all you need is brake and light and smog inspections depending what state you live . But remember it is very hard to resell a savaged car.

depends on the car, it's value vs its cost, and your mechanical ability. for example, a 38 ford that has matching numbers, etc may have been salvaged at some point, but you can restore it to increase it's value. however the title will always say salvaged. would i do the same for a 99 daewoo? not real likely it will ever be a classic, so..... no. too many variables to give a solid answer to this question!

My last 2 cars both had salvage titles and were both excellent cars. I had no problems with them in either Iowa or California as far as getting inspections, insurance, etc.

you can buy a salvage, but until it is returned to a safe vehicle, it is likely you cant register it. Every state is different.
