In regard to The AcademyAwards: Does anyone think Pan's Labyrinth is this years Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?

Is Pan's Labyrinth this year's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? I see some similarities when it comes to the appeal and critical accolades for these two movies. I think with Pan's Labyrinth garnering 6 Oscar nominations reminds me when Crouching Tiger came out strong with 10. Granted 6 & 10 are not entirely close, but to get that many nominations as a Foreign Film is a tremendous feat. And I think most of Pan's nominations this year are very winnable, with the acception of maybe 1 (Origional Screenplay) Other categories Pan's Labyrinth got nominated for are :

Achievement in Art Direction

Achievement in Cinematography

Best Foreign Language Film of the Year

Achievement in Makeup

Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score)

Any thoughts on their oscar hopes and award similarites to CT,HD?

I do agree that there are similarities that are showing that the academy is opening up to a globalized film world...Look also to the nominations for best actress ( Penelope Cruz) and best supporting actress ( Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi)

El Laberinto de Fauno is a masterpiece, is just so beautifully done. It really transmits its message. It should win at least 4 Oscars

Achievement in Art Direction (Eugenio Caballero, Pilar Revueltas)

    Achievement in Cinematography (Guillermo Navarro)

Achievement in Makeup (David Martí, Montse Ribé)

Best Foreign Language Film of the Year (Recognition to Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece)

Best screenplay is going to Little Miss Sunshine (I personally think that Pan's Labyrinth is so much better, but I think that to give best screenplay to one written in Spanish is not a opening sign that the academy is ready to give yet )

Original Musical Score will be for Babel

CT, HT also won only tecnichal awards and Best Foreign Film

I thought this movie was terribly over-rated. I've noticed that many film producers "over do" the villains and this was no exception. The bad guy was so bad he became a caricature and I spent most of the movie trying to figure out what the heroine ( his wife) saw in him. An intelligent, attractive widow who did not appear to be destitute and she ends up with a man who makes Hitler look like Mother Teresa?? Ruined the movie for me.
