Why do extremist conservatives claim to own God?

Being a Christian is above everything else, yet extremist right-wingers claim only they can be Christian.

Why try to take God out of everyone else's hearts?

Do you honestly believe our Lord cares which political group of people you aligned yourself with during your mortal years?

I've seen this several times today: "I'm a conservative Christian", which places political alliance above faith.

Update:

I'm talking about extremists who are basically calling Democrats "evil" and then "I'm a conservative Christian". So, yes, it is entirely political.

Update 2:

Thanks to all who answered. I asked a serious question and I appreciate those who responded with sincere replies.

theearlybird: Either we're missing each other on this one or you're splitting hairs on a definition. I understood what you meant before your edit, but I think you've misunderstood me. Perhaps I should have quoted one of them instead of paraphrasing it. Let's look at Pastor Chan Chandler, for example: he made national headlines a couple of years ago after expelling nine members of his church for supporting Kerry. I fail to see how that is *not* political.

God does not belong to anyone, He is the almighty Holy Holy Holy. Far beyond our understanding. It is an insult to suggest He belongs to anyone. God loves everyone. In order to be saved you only need to believe Jesus Christ died for your sins and accept him into your heart.

It is not possible to take God out of anyone's heart who has accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts. God's covenant is once you accept him, He will never leave you.

God does not care what political party you belong to. You should still put Him above all else in your life. Everything you do and think should be for His purpose. This includes the political party you support.

Political alliance should never be set above the Almighty Holy God. Nothing is above God.

  • Just because a person says they're a conservative Christian, or a Christian conservative, doesn't mean they're an extremist.

And no, I don't think that only conservatives can be Christians, though I have trouble understanding how someone of questionable moral fiber can claim to be Christian (whether they're liberal or conservative).

I call myself a conservative Christian because that's what I am. I am socially conservative, fiscally moderate, and a Christian.

And yes, I know that God doesn't care whether a person is conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat.

Being a Christian has nothing to do with politics. A Christian repents of his sins, asks Jesus Christ to be his savior, and trys to live his live according to the teachings of the Bible. It is not a political issue.

However, many of the Bible's teachings go against the policies of left-wing Democrats. Abortion is the primary example of this.

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee.

    Jeremiah 1:5

If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him

    Exodus 21:22

you only stated extremists as Conservative or Liberal, yet I guess you'll locate tens of millions of those who vote for a particular party in accordance to economic topics only. I have acquaintances from both ends of the spectrum and maximum (no longer all) agree on debt and spending. although, deliver faith or international warming into it and they get all emotional to the point of destroying that contract. that is the priority. I evaluate myself to be an environmentalist and a economic conservative. technological know-how, although, has a tendency to modify over the years as discoveries have a tendency to opposite worry-free recognize-how on a fairly popular foundation. That being reported, i do no longer believe the authorities will ever end international warming through funding particular industries. the own sector will locate the reply, and don't be shocked if it is a few youngster operating in his storage. all of us ought to do our area, so it is ridiculous when I pay interest to my tremendous wealthy liberal acquaintances with all their large boats, large homes and Prius' preaching to at least some thing individuals on how we go with to stay.

Your argument was faulty with the first phrase of the first sentence being a christian is not or at least should not be above everything else. It is a religionone of many all with the right to think and believe as they see fit. You claim to be against conservatives but are a fundementalist yourself. This is non sequitor in my opinion. Religion is the breeding ground for fundementalism. Fundementalism is the mother of extremism.

And we all know where xtremism leads. It leads to the burning of innocent men and women at the stake... to the bombing of a clinic trying to excercise their constitutional right to choose and to the suicide bombings that plauge the middle east

You seem kind of upset. God can handle this. I won't attempt to guess which "extremists" you are talking about, but the number of people who think only they can be Christian is pretty small.

Being a "conservative Christian" has nothing to do with politics.

My guess is that you are not much of a religious person?

EDIT: No, It doesn't have to do with politics. When people call themselves "conservative Christians", they are not referring to the left/right-wing political labels. They are referring to their beliefs' place in the *religious* spectrum.

For instance, if someone were to say they were a "conservative Catholic", that wouldn't necessarily mean they are die-hard Republican fanatics... it just means that they strongly accept the conservative religious philosophy... having nothing to do with the conservative political philosophy.

    I hope this helps. Cheers.

How far to the right are you talking about? That's in the dictatorial region...I'm a conservative, and religion is a person's choice. Get a clue before coming back on here...

It's very interesting how the right seems to think that they are the only true christians. Do you think Jesus would really be a Republican or Conservative? I mean look who he hung out with. He was all for social programs and equal distribution of wealth. In my opinion he would of definitely been a liberal.

liberal christians believe that god loves it when you slice open a babies skull and suck the remains out with a vaccum. conservative christians hate baby-killing.

You can be politically conservative and religiously liberal, or politically liberal and religiously conservative. A conservative christian not a political issue, it is a faith issue.
