heater for 2.5 gallon tank?
Currently I have a 25watt top fin heater in my tank. It doesn't have a thermometer on the heater, just markings for amount of heat. I have a separate thermometer in the tank. when i first got the heater, the lowest setting kept the tank at 78 for awhile. And then later on in the month it crept to 80 degrees. It's now near the end of the month and i think it's now 82 degrees. I'm afraid that the temperature will just keep on rising.
I'm thinking about purchasing a new heater, one that has a thermometer built into the heater. Does anyone have any heater brand suggestions and how many watts I should use?

25watts is too much for a 2.5 gallon tank, this is why it's over heating. the link I provided is to a 7.5 watt heater.

It.s hard to heat a 2.5 gal. tank. I have a whisper 2-15 gal heater and turn it on in the afternoon to simulate the natual heating of water and off at sundown. wattage wise I woud go with 10-50 watts. also get a name brand heater top fin is owned by petsmart thats why topfin products are a petsmart exclusive. Name brands are: Tetra, Hagen, Marineland, lee, and perfect-a-flo.Don't buy topfin, all gass aquariums, sea-life, and aquaculture.

there is a tiny 4 watt heater you can get at walmart. i haven't seen them anywhere else. its only like 8 dollars if that. you need a heater under 10 watts and they don't make that many of them.

I think you can get ten watt heaters, the rule is really 5 watts per gallon....so if you could get 15 watts

What ever kind of heater you get, you should still keep a thermometer and monitor it.
