Wall is uneven (#2) - how do I fix it?
I am doing some DIY in my bathroom. My ex wasn't a bundle on home improvements so the bathroom has only been decorated once in 20 years; even then, it has not been stripped right back...until now!
I am finding all sorts of things but my question is about a bowed wall. The wall is uneven - it bows outwards slightly. Not much but, because I want to partially tile the wall, it needs fixing. It's a partician wall, partly made of plasterboard, partly made of wood (I kid you not!). Not particularly well made either but there you go!
What is the best way to even this wall up? (And please do not suggest expensive wall replacement - I am on a finite budget and cannot afford to do this!)...

I suggest using taper edge plasterboard. Depending on how severely the wall is bowed, you might be able to correct it by using dabs of adhesive to stick it to the wall - use big dabs in the low spots and small dabs in the high spots - or it might need timber laths to level everything up then screw the plasterboard to the laths. Taping the joints and then covering them and the screw holes with "mud" needs a bit of care, but its not a highly skilled job. If the tiles are likely to get wet, you may need a cement based tile backer board either instead of the plasterboard or better still on top of it. Get a long spirit level to make sure all the joints are level. Take your time - don't rush it.

Taper edge plasterboard is very cheap at Wickes. Easier to srtip off the old plasterboard, check the frame, and put new board on. Use it 'taper facing you', and you skrim tape the vertical joints, then fill with polyfiller and sand flat.
