Metformin improves the cell’s response to insulin, and helps move glucose into the cell. As a result, your body will not be required to make as much insulin and ovulation occurs more frequently. I have PCOS, I was prescribed Metformin 2 months ago and I have just found out that I am pregnant after trying without Metformin for 3 years!! Good luck darling, believe me its worth it!! I couldnt be happier!! Any questions feel free to email me. x

I have PCOS, and I have a 10 month old son and am 18 weeks pregnant. However, I never went a month without a period. I know other anquaintances that have no periods or very irregular cycles (like bleeding for two months). It is much harder to concieve on your own if your skipping cycles or have very irregular ones.

This is because your period is a sign of your ovulation. If you aren't menstrating then you aren't preparing and releasing an egg. Without the egg fertilization and implantation cannot occur.

I would advise you to speak to a reproductive endocrologist. That is where I got the most help. My doctor at the time just sent hubby and I in circles and they actually wanted to snip him - unnecessarily so. But, I live in a small town in Ohio. IF you live in large city you may be able to get the care you need at a regular MD's office.

But, it sounds like you aren't because Metformin is not working for you. I went on Gonal-F, Pergonyl, and Progesterone to help me conceive my first. With my second it happened naturally the first time trying. PCOS is like that...

Wishing you the Best of LUCK!!

  • I am in the same boat, however, I am unable to take Metformin as it does not agree with me - i get extremely upset stomachs from it.

I too have PCOS and have not had a period since last May, however there are a few things you can try...

    1. If you are overweight (as a lot of people with PCOS are) you need to try and eat healthier, i know it sounds obvious, but excess weight is one of the main problems with PCOS and is what stops ovulation, so if you eat healthy and exercise regularly, you can actually kick start you periods into action - once you've had one, chances are you'll have another, just not necessarily as regularly as other women.

    2. Ensure "dad" is doing all he can to help - i.e. stopping smoking, reducing alcohol intake, eating healthy too - as these all cause his sperm to reduce in motility - which won't help your chances of conceiving.

    3. Start taking certain vitamins, like folic acid, and other prenatal vitamins, as these will help, if you do conceive, to produce healthy baby.

    4. Don't stress about getting pregnant - though i am not actively trying to conceive, I have been told, on good authority from a friend of mine with PCOS, that all the while she was stressing about trying to have a baby, and going out and just seeing babies and prams everywhere she went, she had no chance of conceiving. She eventually got into the mind-set that if she didn't crave it, it would happen on its own - so she went away on holiday and had a great time - forgot all about the stress of needing a baby, and then two weeks later found out she was pregnant! she now has a gorgeous 13 month old baby boy called Zack and they are all very happy together! so basically, don't fret about it. if its going to happen it will, and if you stress about it, you will actually do more harm than good and can stop your periods altogether.

Anways, it is possible and with Metformin being the only drug proven to help with PCOS, you are on the right track - so keep going and one day you may find a (+) on your test stick!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi, firstly don't give up hope, I have PCOS and have a five year old and a baby on the way in July!! I was on Dianette which acts as a contraceptive but balances out the testoserone made by the PCOS. I came off it and caught after 6 months with my first and six weeks this time. Get your doc to refer you for fertility treatment. Clomid is a good fertility drug, don't let them fob you off, fight to be taken seriously. Good luck!

I have PCOS and I am currently five months pregnant. I didn't have a period for one year, then my doctor gave me some medicine that starts your period. Then I took birth control for about 6 months, after that I was put on Metformin, and then after a couple months of that (my periods came but not regular) I took two months of clomid. I always ovulated late (when I did ovulate) and I ovulated with clomid on day 17, or 18. I am pregnant so don't lose hope there is lots of stuff to help out there. I know it is hard but if you have any questions email me.

my friend was diagnosed 2 weeks ago it broke her heart shes 21 and althogh she doesent want children right now she knows she wants them later on,and the docters had to be honest and not give her false hope they told her its better if she never sets her mind on having a baby the chances are very very slim some pcos sufferers only ovulate once a year youd never pin point it it sounds harsh but many woman live with the fact they cant have babys and eventually it becomes reality to them. All the best to you if it happens great and let us know so we can give other pcos sufferes hope.

  • I was diagnosed with PCOS a long time ago, and my doctor told me to lose weight and eat properly, i did these things and i began getting my period, then 5 months after having regular periods i got pregnant. I had my daughter 2 years ago and have had regular periods ever since. By the way you can ovulate without having a period, just like you can have a period without ovulating

My sister had a terrible time getting pregnant... Almost 5 years and many miscarriages. We were told it runs in the family, but I got pregnant on the pill, go figure. Please do make sure to keep up with your doc. Not many know enough about PCOS to help, but if you can find a specialist in your area, it would be a good idea.

    Good luck!

I dont really have any insight to pcos but my ex sister in law has it and she concieved in the first week they tried! I suppose you just have to catch it at the right time, its all down to fate and good luck

keep trying and best of luck
