A new definition for anal retentive?

My three year old daughter has developed a very disturbing behavior in the past few weeks. She holds in her bowel movements for days and even weeks! Inevitably when it finally comes out it is a huge, rock-solid ball that is extremely painful for her. fearing the pain, she again holds it the next time continuing this vicious cycle.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I must say as a parent, of all the things I have had to deal with in raising her, this is really the first thing I am completely at a loss on how to handle.

Anybody else ever delt with this?

give her a little bit of laxatives, it can cause a lile diarrea but she wont b able to hold it in for long because of it, and since it is softer she might loose fear of going, then slowly she can go back to normal as you explain how its really not that scarry

Sounds like a normal toddler thing. Try giving her some prune juice, prunes or oatmeal daily. High fiber foods. It will soften it up and she will have to go.
