Why can't the people who want an "English Only" policy in the USA spell?

I have yet to meet a single pro-English only individual whose English is above the redneck drawl.

Don't they realize if we had an "English Only" policy in place, their Hickphonics wouldn't pass the test?

PS: It's "borders," not "boArders." It's "Jee-sus," not "Gee-zus." Also, it's "Ah-ree-an race," not "Ah-ryan race." And when you mumble that "Hitler was right," you're supposed to pronounce the final "-er" in Hitler as "-ah": "Heet-lah."

I don't know why and I have had the same thought myself. All the screaming and wailing about English from people who don't have a good command of the basic skills themselves.

Alright, I am one such individual and, although we have not met, I would be happy to explain to you why I advocate an "English-only" immigration policy (So far I haven't used any words you don't understand, have I?).

For any country to exist for very long, the citizens have to be homogeneous (not too big a word for you?) to the point where they can communicate with each other. That is particularly important in a democracy, which is based on debate and a free flow of ideas.

Without that ability, the country will be almost completely unable to get everyone to pull more-or-less the same direction on the rope, and unless that cooperation exists, the country will not exist for very long.

The USA is a huge country. Its exceptional political strength derives from the fact that everyone, whatever their divisions in terms of wealth, location, etc. can communicate with everyone else. That is due to a strong public school system (strong in the sense that you must attend) and a common language. While people may not always agree, they can understand other opinions and are willing to accept the will of the majority.

If you look at every other successful country in the world, this homogeneity (do you still follow?) is present. Without it, you are doomed to infighting, misunderstanding and inefficiency. Why did the Soviet Union disintegrate? Just look at the ethnic and idiomatic (not too big a word?) differences which existed and which were only "ironed out" through the use of force. Once the force disappeared, things fell apart because they had nothing in common.

Without a common language, the USA would be a shadow of what it is. If you want to speak your own language and practice your own culture, GREAT! My mother and father both spoke non-English languages. But, they both spoke English and made sure their children spoke English first. They were not unique and are part of the reason that Americans now have the luxury to spout well-meaning and ridiculous nonsense (I have nobody specific in mind, of course).

We have not met, so your original proposition may still stand. However, based on the way you stated your question I think the pleasure is mine.

English is the "lingua franca" of the world. i expect if foreigners want to come here, they should learn English, not we learn Spanish or anywhere they go, there is a great chance English will be spoken.

second, what you are referring to is a dialect of English. Approximately 600 million people use the various dialects of English regularly. It is still English. People speak differently but still are speaking English. We dont care how you speak it, as long as its English. There are many many many dialects of English depending on your geographical location so your point of Americans not knowing how to speak "proper" English because they have a dialect has yet again proven your irrefutable ignorance. English is a language. How you speak it, that's up to you.

Written by a true American speaking and American educated neo-lithic selfrighteous halfwit.

The only true English speaking are in fact those from England. You read, write and converse in American English. Which is a far different dialect and wordplay than the true English language.

So when you can spell yourself in the correct fashion according to the Oxford English Dictionary, you can criticise others for their failings , notice the lack of the Americanised "IZE".

Oh and its actually Jesus. Notice the Capital punctuation and the single use of the letter "e".

    Enough said.

You're lying. I've never heard someone speak like that. Just because you want the national language to be Spanish, which by the way it should not, doesn't mean you have to criticize how Americans talk. I might be wrong, but don't Hispanics speak lazy Spanish? It isn't the same as the Spain language, it's a lazy version. That tells me that Hispanics are just a bunch of hypocrites. You're giving your race an even worse name, Juan.

Congratulations on submitting THIS post with no spelling errors, with help from "spell check" most likely, as the other answers suggested. I HAVE looked at your other posts and I have noticed NUMEROUS misspellings and grammatical errors. Don't criticize others for something you yourself are guilty of. You'll probably go back and edit your posts using spell check so others don't see it...lol...what a racist idiot!!!! P.S...even the most intelligent people sometimes miss a key or comma, get lazy and use slang etc. Don't attack someone's intelligence based on their posts on here. It's an informal forum!!!

Just stop ! There are pro illegals on here that couldn't spell mud if they had it all over them.Stop being silly and superficial. If that's your best argument for English not being the official language in the USA then you are really reaching aren't you?I live in Arizona,I am college educated and don't talk with any drawl or accent.I speak English just as 85% of legal Americans do.And we don't seem to have any problems understanding or being understood.

You cant seem to understand the meaning of illegal.
