Global warming and cooling have been happening for centuries. There are periods in history that were hotter than it is now. For example, from A.D.900 to A.D.1100, global temeratures were much warmer on average than at present. Although it's true that carbon dioxide and methane levels have increased slightly over the years, and it may be due to man's efforts, all scientific evidence that has been gathered indicates that there is no danger of a global warming disaster. The predictions of global warming are based on theory alone. Nature contributes more carbon dioxide and greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere than man. While man contributes about 7 billion tons of CO2 into the atmosphere yearly, nature puts about 200 billion tons into the atmosphere every year. Nature has been doing this for a while and nothing has happened yet.
I'm not looking for an argument. I just want to know what your opinion is. Please give well thought out answers and list your sources.
Much appreciated.
I got my info from one of my science books. Please give a link to the article about the ice shelf. I would like to read about it for myself. Thanks.

My personal belief is that we, as humans have a very small ability to impact the climate. For anyone to think otherwise demonstrates how much humans think of themselves, and how little they think of the world around them

I highly recommend the book Sex, Drugs, and DNA as interesting reading on this topic and more-- from stem cell research to terrorism to eugenics. It's an absorbing (though, at times, incendiary) read. I'd recommend it if you're interested in looking at a different angle on the issue.
Global Warming is not generally contested. While it is fact that the world does go through patterns, it doesn't seem as if the current trends fall into those patterns-- we're actually due for a cooling trend. As far as all modeling is concerned, it would seem that man-made pollution does directly affect the atmosphere. It is also fact that the ozone does not go through those same trends-- those holes are man-made, and it is fact that they did not appear until industrialization was in full-swing.
Even if it just another trend, I don't think that most people would condone abusing the environment-- if it is true that global warming is man-made, then it does no good to simply dismiss it. If it isn't, and global warming isn't our fault, protecting the environment and reducing harmful emissions could hardly be a negative. Either way, I do not see the harm in taking a proactive, conscientous stance.

So, what are your sources for the information you used? Granted that temperature changes fluctuate from time to time, doesn't change the fact that people, especially in the industrialized world have probably helped accelerate these changes. Not to start an argument either, but a little research and common sense go a long way.
Your wrong about nothing happening too. A few months ago there was a news article about an ice shelf that cracked somewhere in Canada, the ice shelf was about the size of Rhode Island- proof of global warming ? You decide.

I think that the earth goes through cycles and changes that we cannot control or predict. There are so many variables to consider, and I really don't think that we have all the necessary knowledge about everything that affects our atmosphere and weather patterns. I think we have only part of the knowledge. We can't even predict the weather accurately for more than a few days in advance and sometimes not even that much. Our understanding is too limited. And as an extension of all that, I believe that global warming, if it's occurring, is a phenomenon that would be occurring with or without our interference. We definitely have an impact on the environment, and we need to get our act together, but the earth will survive with or without us.

Um, no.
Agreed that Global Warming and Cooling periods have been going on since the beginning of Earth.
Agreed also there is still room for doubt whether man's activities are impacting the current trend.
The problem is, What wouldn't have been a catastrophe centuries ago is now simply because we have large populations in areas that will be effected by a warming cycle, i.e. the coasts.
That is the problem no matter what is causing the warming.

I tend to agree with this assessment. The planet goes through these cycles and I think there is far too much evidence of that to get all excited over this cycle.
IMO Man is indigenous to this planet. He evolved here and will go extinct here. Man was, is and will be part of this planets ecosystem until something happens to change the status quo. Perhaps my car exhaust will trigger that change but I have my doubts.
I imagine the little dinosaurs were going crazy complaining about the big piles of poop left by the big dinosaurs. I can hear the complaints now. They are smelling up the planet and in 30 years nothing will be able to live here.
As I said, I tend to agree. I have been hearing someone or another crying "WOLF" about one thing or another all my life.

You are talking about scientific data. Scientists don't take these things lightly. Have you seen an Inconvenient Truth yet? If you need more information you should be looking at scientific data. It sounds like you are talking about arguments brought up by 'right wing' talking heads. Nothing has happened yet? There are glaciers melting all over the world, an ice shelf recently broke, inclimate weather all over the world etc. etc. Look up any of these things and consider what scientists said 2 days ago. WE ARE CONTRIBUTING SIGNIFICANTLY TO GLOBAL WARMING. I know you aren't looking for an argument but do a little of your own research and it doesn't take long to realize what is happening. I wish you luck and good health.

in one way or another man is doing some damage to the effect that it contributes to the global warming thats happening right now so it really does no harm to do something to whatever it is that contributing to the pollution and global warming thats happening right now!

Yes it goes up and down just like the stock market. This global warming will be greater than in the past,so if you wanted to see Florida....you better go in the next 10 years.Or,you'll have to bring the adault size water wings.

All of these changes have been brought about by Comet McNaught. Go here and listen to this on your Real Player, or media player, make sure you listen to the Feb 1st, & Jan 18 broadcast, http://www.jmccsci.com/
I hope you find this as interesting, as I have.
