Recordable DVD & Camcorder question about discs?

For Christmas I received a Sony DVD/VHS recorder. I've dubbed from VHS to DVD and recorded from TV onto DVD. I can play them back on the Sony but cannot play on another DVD player (also brand new) I also have a new Sony camcorder which records on mini discs. Those discs play on the Sony DVD player but not on any other one. Please give my possible reasons why this occurs! Thanks

Did you finalize the disks. If you are using -R disks them must be finalized to be used on other machine.

Also RW disks don't always play on some machines and neither do +R disks. But +R disks don't have to be finalized to play on other machines that are +R compatible.
