Filter and surge protector~how big to protect our 62" Toshiba?

Monster Power~Power Center HTS 1000 MKII(2700+ joules) is what we have on our 62" HD wide screen Toshiba TV. The TV was just a year old 11/30/06. We have a Toshiba DVD/VCR combo and the satelite DVR plugged into the Monster Power Filter/Protector. We have had the power co.out twice with a recorder on the electric supply~meter. We have replaced all the outlets in the living room; and it has 2 circuits in that room. Tightened all the neutrals in the fuse panel. The Toshiba service rep has been here twice and has found nothing. Everything is running to code(TV, DVD/VCR, DVR) All the outlets are all at code. The house was built in 94. Problem is that we have "smoked" five of them in 15 months. No lightning storms were involved. Monster cable is stumped. Best Buy is astonished, but inexperienced. Now that it's a year after purchace, we are down to mailing them to CA(shipping is $20).What can we safely get away with at a cheaper price?Insurance will not put a seperate writer on the TV.

Update:

The time frame is so spuratic when it blows. The first time the TV stayed on but made a high pitched whistle then smelled like hot electrical fumes. Now it's coming closer in time frame and it takes the TV but there is power still there. It's between 30 and 45 days. I am wits end and feel I have jumped thru everyone's hoops but have no satisfaction. It really concerns us being it is electrical and that in itself is scarey! Thanks for any remedies or ideas.

Update 2:

No heavy load...just the TV, VCR/DVD, and DVR satelite receiver on that circuit. Very low draw according to the electrician that checked out the outlets. We do share our transformer with the car dealer-garage across the street. Down the line, but their own transformer is a farm(abt 1/4 of a mile away). Our computer and other appliances are not affected...just that $5k TV. I am NOT impressed with Monster either! Thanx for the info.

Update 3:

Coax is pluigged into the monster protctor/filter for superior picture. I can tell the difference without the filter as for picture clarity. We have dish network but with that wide of a screen...the color and clarity will not be as clear witout it.

Do you have large electrical loads on your line? Air compressor, split system air conditioning unit, any other large motorized equipment? If so, then these loads must be isolated. Also, are you hooking up the coax cable line though any filters?

Find a local store that sells APC products and try one of those. ( I would trust APC long before I trust Monster)

It doesn't matter what your load is. What matters is what or who you share your line with. I don't like the fact that you have a car dealer - auto shop that shares the transformer. Electric motors and other industrial equipment can cause large voltage spikes that can travel down the line - although it is only speculation at this time. It is interesting that only your TV is affected and you haven't had trouble with your computer. You might want to talk to your power company again and have them come out with an oscilloscope. This will give them a better indication of how clean or dirty your power actually is.

Get as far away from Monster products as you can, they are way overpriced and lack the quality of lower priced items. If you want power protection, then go with a power company, APC, Eaton Power and Tripp-Lite to mention a few.

Also go with the unit that provides the highest joules rating, nothing lower than 2000 surge joules

Very nice question! 1. Murder/Rape 2. Sexism & The Body Image Girls Look Up To 3. Government - (Immigration, President, War, Economy) 4. Out of Control Children 5. Drugs 6. Pollution/Global Warming I have no idea how to fix them. I just wish all the parents in the world would care about their children, and I wish drugs were only made possible in medicine and every medication had to have a prescription. I wish people would stop burning garbage and see the cloud-like billows of smoke they're sending in the air. I wish people would fess up to global warming, and that the parents would actually care enough about their kids to prevent them from dying from it in the future. I wish everything was perfect. Don't we all?
