SIDS parents...did any of you use a sids montior with a subsequent child?

did it make it more stressful for you or easier. i have a 6 yr old daughter and i lost my son Hunter to sids at 11 days of age in 05. we are expecting a little girl in 5 weeks and am torn as to whether or not i want the monitor. iknow it will scare my oldest daughter and i know the odds of it happening again are slim...just wondering what your experiences were like... thanks in advance

As a SIDS mother, I am struggling with this question myself when my husband and I start trying in a couple of months. My personal feeling at the moment is this: the only thing a monitor is going to do is make me have a heart attack every time it false alarms. The great majority of SIDS babies cannot be revived, it is part of SIDS....therefore, if it alarmed, you could get the child to the hospital quicker, but most likely, that wouldn't make a difference. And all the false alarms would just cause greater stress......as for what my personal choice will be, we haven't decided yet, perhaps we'll use one until our child is past the age that my daugher died.....

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. My wife and I had a baby who would stop breathing for short periods of time as an infant. We used a monitor, especially at night. It helped us to get some sleep knowing that the monitor was there. We had older children but none of them seemed to be bothered by the alarm. We did move the baby in to our room so we could hear if there were any problems

Yes it's much better to have the false alarms. For your oldest daughter let her know all about the monitor and you might have to move the baby into your room for a little while. Good Luck and God Bless
