Do you believe NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak is guilty of ATTEMPTED MURDER???
Yes, she has just been charged. Yes, she has to be found guilty by her peers. Yes, the prosecutor had the discretion to file the charge. Now that we've established that...let's get realistic. Do you really think a jury will convict her of attempted murder and kidnapping?
Here is a link to the detective's report. Read it if you wish.
http://news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/nasa/flnowak205...
The ACT of pepper spraying the other woman was over. She was walking away and on her way back to Texas. The ACT was over. She had a BB GUN intended to "scare" the other lady but it wasn't even used.
She is totally guilty of assault, guilty of stalking, and has definitely suffered a nervous breakdown. Is she "crazy" for "life"? Probably not if she takes some meds. She's a smart woman or wouldn't be an astronaut. Definitely needs therapy.
WHERE IS THE ATTEMPTED MURDER??
The prosecutor does have discretion, but aren't you tired of overzealous prosecutors lately (Duke case) shooting from the hip?
I understand that they obviously looked at her intent. Perhaps this intent was admitted in her statement or other people's statements. But the report is listed above. Didn't mention any other people's statements.
At one point is intent proven? At what point is it speculative? At what point is it trumped up?
If you spray someone in the face and walk away and start to drive back to Texas (the show is now over), how did you intend to murder somebody?
The diaper part is obviously weird...it proves her mental state was "crazy" but it doesn't prove "intent"...that's the law. Why do some people just focus on the diapers? I would hate to have them on a jury.
I do not "sympathize" with Lisa to the point where I blindly think "not guilty." I think she should be found guilty of what --- in my opinion --- she deserves. And that is assault, stalking. Additionally, she should lose her job at NASA. The NAVY should seek their own charges against her if they do indeed have the jurisdiction. I'm not familiar with this area, but if they have it, then proceed. She does need to go to a mental institution for some period. Her husband probably should divorce her. I never sympathized with her.
I only raised my eyebrows once they charged her with attempted murder, and that is the point of this SPECIFIC question which was purposefully worded to meet this particular issue (attempted murder).

I'm with you on this one. Attempted murder for pepper spray and a BB gun? Or maybe she was going to strangle her with her diaper?
Lisa is obviously a bit unbalanced to throw away so much for an affair, but she is no murderer.

The act of pepper spraying the other woman is not over, if she did it, that charge will stick, that would be assault. The BB gun, not exactly a illegal weapon, but if used, would be assault with weapon causing bodily injury. As for as attempting kidnapping, it did not happen. Assault is the spray, stalking is exactly what she was doing. As for as attempted murder, attempt of murder did not take place. She had all the items that one could kill and dispose of a body with, but it did not happen. The thought was there, but still there was no murderand no kidnapping. The part that will get her off is the diaper, this is what will convince a jury that she had a nervous breakdown, I think she knows that. I think she should have to served some prison time for doing what she did. As far as being a smart woman, that remains to be seen. She was not smart, just stupid and jealous, to get things together like she did, all the tools, plans to commit murder and dispose of the body. I am sure she will pull a Andrea Yates and get off, then will be put back on the streets as cured. This was not a nervous breakdown, this was pure jealousy of the man and that other woman. Just because she is a astronaut, should not make her above the law. Her children are suffering right now, more than she ever will. If she cared for them children, she would have been at home being a good parent, not running off to dispose of a woman she was jealous of. Jealousy is not a nervous breakdown. The extent of which she carried out her plan was evil jealousy, nothing else. Overzealous prosecutors? They are doing their jobs, this case will end up being plead down to one felony, and she will be put on probation and ordered to seek help for her stupid way of thinking problem. Justice will suck, just like it did with Yates. I do hope that she does not get the children back, they have suffered enough, next time may be them she is jealous of.

This chick drove 900 miles non stop with a bag full of weapons, and confronted the girlfriend of the man she was obsessed with.
She surely intended to do bodily harm to the woman, so I believe that she indeed did intend to kill that woman.
I'm incensed that this lady got bail so easily - due to her mental state and the obvious flight risk, she should have been remanded to the Orange County jail.
And I'm quite sure if she was a bus driver instead of an astronaut, she would have!!!
But she's affluent and well connected,so of course she got favorable treatment from the justice system.
That's unfortunate, since this woman deserves to be convicted by the civilian justice system and then court martialled by the Navy - so she can do her civilian time and then be sent to Leavenworth when she gets parole to do some more time.
BTW - I totally disagree with you about Duke - basically, a group of affluent White college kids got off scott free, because they came from rich well connected families and the woman they allegedly raped was a poor Black stripper
If the incomes and colors had been reversed in the Duke case, they would be in the Durham City Jail and would have ended up getting convicted and doing well deserved jail time the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
Getting back to the astronut, I've got to ask you, why do you sympathize with her?
This chick is a COMMISSIONED OFFICER OF THE UNITED STATES NAVY and an ASTRONAUT - she should be held to a higher standard of conduct than the average citizen and if she fails to live up to it should suffer a higher penalty!

If I had thought it out as much as she did getting there, I would have brought a better suited weapon to kill someone with... if that was my intention. I would not bring pepper spray or a bb gun. I would bring a 9 mm and a torch. I would not have went up to her in a public parking spot, I would have done it somewhere private. It doesn't make sense that such a smart woman could attempt murder without acomplishing it. She was a astronaut, she would try to acomplish her task.

I say no, but I would like to know what she intended to do with the rubber tubing & diapers. Strange to say the least. The prosecutors of today are definitely over zealous. Everything is over the top nowadays.

Its a stretch. But anytime you use a potentially deadly weapon you will get that charge. She had a knife. She didnt retreat, the lady pulled away. No telling what would have happened. What kinda woman gets obsessed like that?

This is what you get with an artificial push for diversity and equality.Next time they will find a black woman who has converted to judaism with a hispanic surname and one leg to fill all their stupid quotas, This government hates the White majority.

I think she's guilty of being crazy. I'd like to see her locked up in a hospital where she can't go after anyone else.

I'd have to hear and see all the facts before making a judgment about anything. I guess she just snapped. I feel sorry for her children.
