Female and Male Rhodesian Ridgeback with Skin Allergy-Is there a Vet. in the House?
My Rhodesian Ridgeback had these little scabby bumps all along her underside and all over her body right before the holidays in 06'.We took het to our vet and they put her on a couple of meds,gave her a special shampoo& a leave in cond.,and put her on Purina vet diet called HA(HypoAllerginic)they all helped,and after it cleared up,as instructed,I stopped everything.After a few days,the spots on her underside came back.She currently eats\ate NutroLg.Breed which has chicken as the only protein.She was eating Lamb&Rice,but she had developed(what I thought)was the allergy to the Lamb after being on it almost a year.I thought it was a bad bag of food,since I offered it to my other RR puppy as a treat, and then he got the same rash on his back.So I started her back on the leftover meds and they seem to help.She doesn't eat the HA food very good,so I mix them,seeing the Nutro food w\chicken seems to help.The vet said the only way to figure out the allergy is bloowork, which is $$$... Help!
Her current food seems to help, but the skin problem doesn't seem to completely go away. Could she possibly be allergic to an ingredient in the Nutro brand foods?
Um, thanx to al who commented, but I am going to try something my vet suggested which is a Duck and Potato based dog food. I found it exclusevely at a Petco, and its by Dick Van Pattens. Anyone heard of this kind and have you tried it?
To those of you who questioned if I have her on a flea preventitive...yes I do as a matter of fact, its Frontline Plus, the best kind out there. It is the only kind that is waterproof and kills all adult fleas, eggs and ticks 100%, and works right away if they already have an infestation. new fleas and Ticks also die just by landing on the dog because the chemicals are absorbed into the hair folicles of the coat and into the skin. She hasn't shown any reactions to the drops and she has been on it for years. Thank You for your concern though! :)

In my opinion, something may be wrong! take her to the vet, and if he can't determine anything, take her to an animal behaviourist before you give up on her. I would recommend keeping the toddler away from her since he(she) is small. There are many causes for this behaviour. What are her living conditions? Inside or outside? Does she get as much attention as the other one? Do they still bond and play together, or does this happen all the time? Where did you get her from? I'm guessing because they are both mixes, you got them from a shelter (which i applaud to). She may have been a product of inbreeding, meaning her mother and father were actually mother/son or sister/brother. Dogs that are the product of inbreeding ALWAYS have mental/psychological issues. Sometimes it doesn't appear until they are older. As of right now, when they are alone together, make sure they are separated. Also keep the toddler away until you know what's up. Good luck.

do you have her on a flea preventive? My pit bull was allergic to fleas and would get bumps on her skin then they would break and bleed for flea bites. putting miss b on flea preventive stopped the bumps permanently
