Which x-ray procedure is better for checking nerves: MRI or PET Scan?

I am interested in finding out which one is the better quality test for checking nerves after having been told that a PET Scan might actually show up the nerves better. I'm asking this because I'm in the process of trying to figure out what is going on with a pain situation I've had going on for the last 3 months.

I don't think there is any question that in your case an MRI is more appopriate. PET will look for glucose uptake so it's extremely useful in finding tumors, looking at lack of brain activity i.e. in the case of Alzheimers, and diagnosing ischemic heart conditions. I've never heard of this usage in PET and I've worked around Nuc Med for 5 years now.

MRI is more anatomical in that it shows contrast between very tissue types much better than a CAT scan would so if you have concerns regarding nerve fibers near bone or other soft tissue. The physican will have better contrast in the MRI than a CAT or PET.

MRI, but for Functionality PET. BTW, MRI doesn't Use X-Rays At All.

MRI is better because it dont use any radioactive substance unlike PET. moreover MRI is more sophisticated than PET
