Has a work of fiction ever changed how you felt about an issue? Do you feel that's justifiable?

Movies and books can change your perspectives on a lot of things, I know I have altered my thinking from just seeing a movie and having another perspective forced on me. I have not read The Innocent Man but it sounds good and if it interests you and had roused a new opinion in you, then doing further research on some facts is a good back-up. It is a terrific example of how books can make people smarter and the hallmark of a good writer if he can do this to readers =)

I haven't read any of John Grisham's novels, but I have read the Fountainhead... That's an amazing book and it has changed how I thought on living life.

No fiction is a story and stories don't change my thoughts on issues. It's just a bunch of ideas and emotions from an author. My guy loves scifi and most of it is very blase` about the future, although he said if he got the opportunity to go to into space he would, ie aliens offered him the chance, or space travel to the station became something anyone could do. I told him if it happens I would wave good bye ;-)

fiction has the power to challenge our perspective of issues and events because it is someone else's fully formed opinion. when we read fiction we enter that work and see things that are meant for us to see and think about. I feel my change in perspective is justifiable only after the work of fiction had me research the topic independantly.

Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand got me pretty fired up when I first read it about 20 years ago.
