Why do some people choose to believe in a god.?

There is absolutely no proof that any god ever existed except in people's minds, And everything they say a god has done can be explained scientifically or logically to be something else. So, why believe?

Update:

Stayathomemom, heresay is not considered evidence anywhere, even in your church

When you believe that their is some all-powerful father in the sky to protect you and insert justice into the universe, life seems fairer, safer and more purposeful. But any scientific or rational inquiry into to such beliefs show them to be unprovable. I think the belief in god is a delusion that is given credibility only by its popularity. 85% of the world believes in god(s) in some form or another, leaving only 15% atheists. If atheist were the 85%, do you think belief in an unseen and imperceptible being would still be seen as a good thing?

why do you believe that we were once monkeys?

    What proof do you want?

The Ontological Argument The Causality Argument The Kalam (Time) Argument

The Contingency Argument The Cosmological Argument The Design Argument

The Miracles Argument The Moral Argument The Religious Experience Argument

The Teleological Argument The Prima Facie Argument

Your conscience proves there is a God.

    laws written on your heart

Time proves there is a God.

Can you go back infinte years? Or did it take infinite years to reach this point. Oh but you say what about your God. However God can move and operate in at least two dimensions of time. In two dimensions of time, time becomes a plane, like a sheet of paper, length and width. In a plane, you can have as many lines as you want and as many directions as you want.

It would be possible for God to dwell on a time line running through a sheet of paper that's infinitely long, and that never crosses or touches the timeline of our universe. As such, God would have no beginning, no end and he would not be created.

Creation proves there is a God.

Laws proves there is a God.

Jesus proved there is a God.

Prophecy proves there is a God, let alone endtime propchey that is going on right now.

Not true. Your argument as to the ability to prove all that which people attribute to God, specifically to other things is untrue. That's the point which Catholics address when accepting miracles as fact. The church requires documentation that a specific event has no other attributable cause. Such a thing as an X-ray, showing bones broken, the documented intervention of prayer, and the subsequent healing of said bones, documented once again by X-ray, in a period of time which natural healing couldn't have occurred (a matter of days, perhaps) 'might' be considered a miracle. A completely severed spinal chord, healed again, with full utilization of appendages restored 'might' be considered a miracle.

If you can find a modern miracle, verified by the church, and are able to solidly debunk it, then you'd have me on your side of the argument.

Simply put without sounding mean, your wrong. I went from Agnostic to Belief in God from the scientific evidence. Science cannot prove or disprove God. If one really looks at the Biological and scientific evidence found and discovered during the last twenty years, intelligent design is far and away a much more likely Hypothesis or answer. Unfortunately they don't bother telling you that in school. Give me one example of science "proving" there is no God. More and more scientists are refuting evolution and some are calling it the fraud of the century. It takes a bigger leap of faith to believe in evolution than a God.

I'm a catholic because everybody in my family are. But it's only a word, nothing else. I don't go to church or pray. Anyway, I do believe that there was someone who created us and whole world. I think it's great that there are people who believe in God. I wish I could but something inside me tells me - no! I used to believe in God and I felt my live was perfect. After some things which happened in my life I stopped believing. I hope it'll change but the condition is the priests will be different. I can't stand listening to them!

There are, I think, two reasons people (myself included) believe.

One) Fear. Unfortuanately, many people believe just so they won't go to hell. Which is not only untrue, but a stupid reason to change your entire lifestyle.

Two) Personality. Why do some people NOT believe? Because you all see some real evidence that there is NOT a God? Well, many interperate the same evidence in a manner that there IS a God. It all depends on the personality, upbringing, and outlook of the person.

Honestly, I don't see why all the hype about believers and non-believers. To discriminate is against God's will, AND exactly what aethiests (spelling?) are trying to avoid. And yet we - both sides of the arguement - still do it!

It's a choice. Although I am a scientifically-minded free thinker, I have noticed some fairly odd coincidences and moments that could be easier explained by divine intervention than science. Oh, don't forget that, even though religion is based in faith, science has an obligation to ALWAYS question itself...thereby proving that there is no such thing as fact (or real, or truth, or good, or bad).

Good luck on your spiritual quest and don't let the right-wing loons push you away from something that feels right.

    Everything can be explained scientifically?

Explain to me the beginning of the universe. and what there was before that. How did life really just start?

Why is our planet so beautiful and full of things we can enjoy?

I think something is going on there.

It may be your tired of religious nuts knocking on your door. I really dont think those people are on the right track.

you're unquestionably maximum suitable. yet then the question right here now's what "sufficient" data might convince you that there is a God or maybe an Originator or a usual reason? And if & once you do finally locate that "sufficient" data do you somewhat have faith which you will surely start to have faith interior the enormous Dad Upstairs? Or will nonetheless be greater "doubt" & "what ifs" to look after?

Many people need comfort that someone with divine powers will help them with his/her powers. Also, humans are naturally afraid of death because they are afraid of the unknown. Believing in a god leads to believing in an afterlife, which is not so scary.
