Has anyone out there that got AIDS from a tattoo or an infection?

As far as I have been ever able to research, there are no reported cases of HIV or AIDS transmission from a licensed tattooer or studio. Yes, it is a bloodborne virus, so the potential is there.

The fact is, it is a very weak virus when you compare it to Hepatatis B or C, for instance. Unfortunately, there is documented proof that there has been tattoo transmission of both of these viruses. This is why it is crucial you only go to professional artists working out of legitimate studios. Stay away from the home tattoo parties, etc. where the risk of cross-contamination is great.

My exs mom got hepatitis c from a shop in Kentucky 20 years ago when they may not have been as careful as they are today. I got hep c also but it was a piercing party at a tattoo artists house who decided to reuse needles. That is something I have to live with the rest of my life. I was only 13 when I got it and had to be admitted to a hospital for weeks. I have not had any problems with it since then, but I am sure I will in the future. I am not supposed to drink as it is a liver disease. But I am a border line alcoholic so I am sure I will need a new liver by the time I am 50. It's never a good idea to go to a tattoo party or a piercing party at someones house, even if they are a good artist at a credible shop because they are in a different environment so they could be not as careful.

Well now a days its really rare to get aids or hiv from a tattoo shop...

However infections are not so rare,even if the tattoo shop is clean and all the needles and everything else are clean. people dont treat tattoos liek an open wound (which they are)....You can get staph infections and any kind of minor infection just from your dirty hands touching your new tattoo.

People just really need to keep the tattoo clean, and really research where theyre going before they get a tattoo..Its all common sense, but alot of people seem to lack that

Me neither, and I've been a semi-hanger-on for a while. I suspect it's a combination of ignorance and (subtle?) racism ("only the poor/stupid/people's whose skin color I don't like get tattoos") on why that persists.

I suppose in the grand scheme it could happen, just like how you could get the same from a dentist/doctor or in a hospital. That such can happen doesn't mean any given doctor/hospital is bad, of course.

I suppose an attached question could be if anyone has heard of a (reputable) artist who's died of such. They're in as much contact with potential hazards as anyone, and pretty much all the time too.

In my experience, the parlors I've seen (locally, anyhow) are at least as clean as a doctor's office. In fact, without little kids around & the mess that often accompanies them, I'd argue the parlors are probably safer.

As long as you go to a clean place to get the tat done their shouldnt be a problem. However if your into prison tats and use indian ink you could get an infection. I have never had an infection or even had a friend that had an infection from a tat best wishes.

Personally, I haven't. I research where I go. There is a place here in Memphis that did infect 2 people with HIV. It happened about 6 years ago. There was a lawsuit. I was 16 then, so I don't know how it all turned out.

Tattoo parlors by law are to use new needles and ink with all customers to decrease the risk of hepatitis and HIV transmission. I don't know what state you're from, but many tattoo parlors are required by state law to use clean needles and new ink with all customers.

I just posted a question like this too. In almost every tattoo question there is some 'tard saying stuff like, "you can get botulism" or some such nonsense. If a shop that I walked into looked dirty, I would walk right out. Read my Question too.

Looked up info on it before getting my tattoo and found thatThere are only 2 cases found and both individuals got their tattoos in jail. I don't recall the website that I found that info though...sorry.

As long as you dont get inked with the same needle that was used on someone with AIDS. Which would be highly unlikely if you went to any liscenced tattooist.
