Hawaii Destination Wedding?

Has anyone been to or been a part of a destination wedding? What are the pros and cons vs a traditional ceremony. Our families live hundreds of miles apart and a traditional wedding location would be hard to decide upon. Also, we are not religious. I was thinking of a small destination wedding, with about 30 people or so. Any comments?

Since people have to come up with the funds to get to your wedding you need to let them know the details as soon as possible. Unless money isn't an issue.

You need to be rather organized or find someone at your destination spot that can help you with your wedding plans.

But a wedding/mini vacation is always a good time.

We're doing a destination wedding in December. We've been planning for about 5 months. I'll give you my pros and cons so far.

Pros- your setting is most of your decoration (saves money)

your guaranteed a honeymoon as well! :)

less bound by traditions than a church ceremony

Cons- a lot of your family and friends may not be able to attend

traveling with a wedding gown and other items is risky,

    especially if you're flying

you don't see where you're getting married until you get

there and if you don't like it, you're SOL

Finances can prevent a lot of family and friends from attending. We only have 4 people going with us, which is actually OK with us but might not be for others. Some of his family is a little miffed. Make sure you talk with your families and get a feel for how well the idea goes over. It IS your day, but you don't want to start a family feud either.

If possible, hire a wedding planner that specializes in destination weddings. We're using a coordinator on the cruise ship line we're taking to the Caribbean and she's been fabulous, full of suggestions and extremely helpful. Basically all we have to do is get to the dock and bring our duds!

I would also try to plan a reception/dinner when you arrive home for those who were unable to attend.

    Hope this helps. Congratulations!

    Hi

Having a Hawaii destination wedding is an excellent idea!

In the recent years, destination weddings have been rapidly increasing in popularity-couples invite a few close family and friends to celebrate their wedding day with them. Couples can cut those costs in half and save on all the time and frustration of planning a wedding by seeking out a travel agent to plan a dream vacation destination wedding.

    Hawaii-places

(1)As the fun in the sun capital of the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu is such a rich and rewarding experience far beyond the pristine turquoise water, the long sandy beaches and the harsh mountains. Here lies a legacy of royalty, luxury and relaxation.

(2)Maui is the perfect place to create memories to last a lifetime. Get married and enjoy your honeymoon in Maui and embrace what the entire Hawaiian Islands have to offer. The perfect weather all year round, uncrowded beaches and wonderful accommodations, Maui is the perfect vacation place to tie the knot and embark on new adventures with your loved one.

I am also having a destination wedding.

The pros are the guest list can be cut (becuase some people can't afford to travel all that way), saving you $, and you can combine your honeymoon with your wedding. Check out this article I found:
