What would make my car heater smell like Maple Nut Goodies?

Every time I turn on my heater in my car it smells like maple candies. Could this be residual from when it was leaking antifreeze?

Update:

Some cute answers so far.

We've only had the car for 6 months, I haven't eaten Maple Nut Goodies in years, and my kid is still in my belly, so she didn't do it. It has smelled like that since we bought it (and it was leaking antifreeze since we bought it, recently had teh head changed) and that's the best analogy for what it smells like that I can come up with. It's bizarre and I was just wondering what could cause it, but I'm not putting any effort into ripping out the dash to see if there's candy anywhere. I personally hate the car and can't wait until we get rid of it. I was just curious of the smell.

This is a bad thing? It could be anti-freeze leaking in through the heater, or it could be you left MapleNut Goodies in the glove compartment.

Sorry but I gotta laugh...lol. Maple Nut Goodies huh?..it sounds like you have candy in the vents of your car, possibly put them on the dash and a few went down the top vents? and they have made their way to around the heater core.

The best way to "clean" this mess up is to take the entire dash out, to get to the a/c/heater box, remove the hearter box and clean it with soap and water. No this isn't residual from having a leaky anti-freeze problem. Anti-freeze smells more like a sickly sweet smell, and I do mean sickly, once you smell it you will never forget it.

Good luck with the "candy" and I hope this helps....lol

Rick C is the man on this one. IF you had your heater core changed because it leaked than yes this is why. But if you havent had your heater core changed and it smells like this, then be prepared to a big mess on your floor. If you already has this mess have someone steam clean your carpet with an extractor/steamer combo. This will help with the smell.

    ABSOLUTELY!

If you change the Heater Core, there is probably residue in the heater ducts. One very important thing you need to do...

If you had it worked on recently (less than 30 days) go back to the shop and have them check it out. They should not charge you!

There is a chance there is still a leak and if not corrected, you could have big troubles. You may have a NEW leak to deal with.

Antifreeze is the reason. My husbands truck was leaking antifreeze and it smells like maple syrup to me.

You or your kids lost some candies down the defrost vent. Antifreeze doesn't smell like candy, it smells like antifreeze. I wouldn't worry about it. You will have to take the whole dash apart to clean it up. At least it doesn't smell like dirty diapers or something ;)
