Why have a Colonic?
Who has ever had one and how are they beneficial to your overall health and well-being? I recently began a diet, and someone suggested that I have a colonic to jump start my efforts so that my body can better absorb the nutrients in my diet. What do you guys think about that?

I have never had a colonic, but I am going to get one next Saturday. They are very beneficial as far as a thorough cleansing method. It helps to remove excess mucus, feces, bacteria, and parasites from the ENTIRE colon. A colonic is actually just a really big enema with the exception that it cleanses the entire colon.
I have heard many positive stories from people who have recieived one, such as increased energy and digestive relief. I have also heard that in foreign countries people get colonics twice a year as a cleansing and preventive method.
The one thing I would encourage you to do is make sure that the hydrotherapist you are going to see is very experienced. You don't won't a trainee to be working on your behind. Agressive stimulation or laceration of this area could cause infection or a permanent problem with bowel function. Just be careful and get someone who has been at this for years. Also, you should pick up a good probiotic at your local health food store to take after the colonic. The colonic not only rids the colon of bad bacteria, but the beneficial bacteria are washed away as well, so put some back in to keep your immune system healthy....this is very important. One to try is Primal Defense by Garden of Life....it is expensive, but worth the money.
Make sure you eat healthy after your colonic. If bad eating habits are continued eventually your colon will become congested again and need another cleasing soon!!!!
Good luck!!!

While it is possible to loose weight from the procedure, this is not the main goal. The main goal of the procedure is to remove parasites from the colon.
Here's a good website that will give you all the answers you need to know about the procedure: http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/s...

Colonic irrigation is also known as hydrotherapy of the colon, high colonic, entero-lavage, or simply colonic. It is the process of cleansing the colon by passing several gallons of water through it with the use of special equipment. It is similar to an enema but treats the whole colon, not just the lower bowel. This has the effect of flushing out impacted fecal matter, toxins, mucous, and even parasites, that often build up over the passage of time. It is a procedure that should only be undertaken by a qualified practitioner.
Purpose
Anyone suffering from gas, bloating, cramping pains, acne and other skin complaints, arthritis, and a list of bowel complaints such as diverticulitis and irritable bowel etc., may benefit from colonic irrigation. In particular, cancer patients are often advised to undertake a course of colonic irrigation sessions as an essential part of their treatment. When a biological cancer therapy begins to enable the body to breakdown a cancerous mass, it is essential that speedy and effective elimination of the resulting toxins is achieved.
Colon and bowel cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and alternative practitioners insist that it can be prevented by efficient hygiene procedures. Providing that care is taken to replace the natural organisms that flourish in the bowel, many health benefits can be expected from colonic irrigation. In general, alternative practitioners maintain that an ill-functioning bowel is the source of all disease, and therefore keeping it clean will be an effective protection against this.
Removing large amounts of toxic matter relieves the patient and can lead to the alleviation of symptoms such as arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, candidiasis, and a host of other illnesses. Properly executed, colonic irrigation can help restore normal peristaltic action to a sluggish bowel, thus reducing the need for more hydrotherapy treatments over time. In addition, removing the layer of fecal matter which coats the intestines in many individuals allows improved assimilation of the nutrients from foods and can alleviate symptoms of vitamin and other nutrient deficiencies. Many alternative health practitioners consider some form of hydrotherapy for the bowel to be essential in the treatment of degenerative diseases.

there are impurities that build up in our colon, and waste that is not let out. you can hold onto this for years. there are different things you can also do. try this company for their colon cleanse products, natures secret. they have a website. it is something you can do to help remove the impurities out of your body in a different way if you dont like the idea of the colonics procedure. it is cheaper as well. take it easy at first when you start. there are two products a super cleanser then another that is two bottles together. they are good.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tr.im/x7QvE
Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour.
Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland.
Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.

There is no proven medical benefit from a colonic. It's a bunch of rubbish.
You don't "absorb nutrients" from your colon anyway - nutrient absorption happens in the small intestine, and a colonic does not reach that far.
As far as "removing parasites" - that's another load of hogwash. Parasites are extremely rare in western society and unless you've been diagnosed (by a reputable lab) to actually HAVE parasites, getting a colonic to "remove" them won't have any effect. Finally, the mythology around "buildup of gunk" in your colon is complete nonsense -- it's just a lie the colonic industry spreads in order to scare you into using their worthless "therapy".

I think it is a colossal waste of your time and money.
I see the inside of people's colons (during colonoscopies) and the outside of people's colons (during belly surgery), and I can promise you that there is NOT a bunch of stuff built up in there.
Eat some fiber (nature's broom!) and you'll be as cleaned out as you need to be. Then maintain a healthy diet - avoid processed foods - eat lots of whole fruits and veggies - and you'll absorb all you need. (Nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine, anyway)
Good luck with the diet!

I think it is all a big hype. I had to have my total colon removed, and they gave me lots of colon wash outs before so they could put cameras in to look about(gross pictures). Your body is supposed to have healthy food, and lots of fresh water in it to work properly, and if done correctly, the body absorbs the nutrients, pushes out the waste, and life goes on. What a money spinner! If people looked after themselves, there would be no need to have another person washing out your insides for you!!!

I am sorry, I can not even imagine having one. I do know that there is a line of thought that our bodies can build up years of waste and pockets of bacteria, we can have worms, etc etc. I know that the surgeons and doctors don't worry so much about it, so that wouldn't be a good reason to do it. I can tell you that if you, like me think it sounds like a horror, you can start off with a juice and water fast with some senna or some type of fiber. I do think if you can do it for a while it does help your body to take the focus off digestion a bit. I do think it makes you feel better also, but that might be from all the vitamins in the juice and lack of junk, fat, preservatives, etc. They actually sell lots of cleansing systems in the gnc and other health food stores. They also recommend probiotics to help your body absorb nutrients. Just make sure you check in with the doc first to make sure you are healthy enough. Good luck!
