How can i tell if Ground Turkey has gone bad?

My husband bought it, and i cant get a hold of him, i THINK it was on Sunday. It doesnt smell, still has a beautiful pink colour, and we buy direct from the farmer at the market, so it doesnt sit around the grocery store. I know they say when in doubt throw it out, but I also know that with Ground beef you can tell by the smell and the colour. Suggestions??

Ground Turkey will grow gray similar to ground beef if you leave it sitting for a while. You'll also notice that more liquid will collect at the bottom of the package if it's packaged ground turkey. I've kept ground turkey in the refrigerator for almost a week and the better store brands seem to taste fine. One note - don't ever freeze ground turkey. It comes out horrible when cooking.

You would definitely know by the smell. (and if the colour is good, you have no problems) BUT always cook ground meat really well - overdone is better than underdone..

whether fresh or frozen, meat should have no odor- perhaps your spices are contributing to the smell-if not, throw it away and chalk one up to experience. Also when you buy fresh or frozen meats always check expiration dates, make sure packages are sealed and if you are going to "use it later," repackage it in freezer quality paper or freezer bags, date it , and don't thaw until ready to use. Always thaw in the refrigerator, which depending on the size of the package, usually takes twenty-four to forty-eight hours.

I usually go by the 'toss it' rule, but if it hasn't been laying out somewhere unrefrigerated and it doesn't smell bad then it might be alright.

if it doesn't smell or look funny I would use it. If you are going to serve it to any small children and you have doubts, toss it
