Father/daughter dance?

I was named after the song "Melissa" by the Allman Brothers. I thought it would be nice to dance with my dad to this song at my wedding, but I have been told that would be considered conceited of me (I don't know how so). Anyway, I was curious on what others thought of this idea?

I think that sounds like a great idea. Don't worry about those people who say that might be conceited. Why not have your dad give a little speech before the dance telling your guests how they named you and how it would mean so much to him that he could dance to this song with his little girl on her wedding day. That way it looks like it was your dad's idea and no one can say your being conceited.

Remember its your wedding. There will be a lot of people telling you how to run your wedding, but remember its yours and do what you and your groom would like.

I don't know that song (but I like the Allman Bros.), but tell me, do you love it and feel good about using it? It's your wedding, sweetie, don't let anybody 'rain on your parade'. You're building your memories, so the part you play is the most vital. You can't control much of what other people do or say, so be sure you do for yourself that which you feel good about.

    The nerve!

I think that it would be fine, your dad and mom named you that for a reason, it is only going to bring him happiness that you thought of him and remember that. And plus, its your wedding, dance to what you want to! If people think it is not right,,let them go outside when the song comes on, the thing here is the happiness between you and your dad. Its hard for dads on wedding days.they love thier children, so go for it and enjoy every moment of that song with him, because he will be in your arms, and you in his, his little girl, now a woman, and someday, he wont be here to hold...treasure it.

Having experienced my daughter's wedding I know Your father will be too emotionally aroused to really care what they play. I know the mixed emotions of witnessing my baby go from little girl of my heart to a wife hit at the wedding but also when we danced. She was my youngest child and her passage ended my responsibilities. It was much harder than when they left for college.

I think its great. and who cares what someone else thinks? my friend's first dance was to the song "my pretty Adriana" picked by her husband! (her name's adriana)... my only words of advice are to print out the lyrics and make sure there are no sexual references or its not an obvious hey 'i love you and want to marry you song " (would be kindof weird, right?) Congratulations and good luck!

I think that is sweet. You were named after the song. I assume your father was a part of that naming process. In my opinion, it would be quite touching. :)
