Who else thinks George W Bush is the greatest president of all time?
Our economy is humming along with low inflation and low unemployment, people have more money in their pockets and we have not had a terrorist attack on our soil since 9-11. GW is prosecuting the war on terror with aggression and as a result the terrorists are on the run. Iraq is a mess but at least they are killing each other and not us! I don't understand why people are so unhappy when the economy is so good. Bush is doing a great job and is one of the best presidents of all time.

Economy is good?! Uh, no. Not awful, for sure, but hardly good. Sure, the numbers look good, but they do not tell the whole story. Poverty has increased because everyone may have a job but it isn't a well paying one -- $10 per hour is not enough to live on. The majority of people (college educated, I still had one of those low paying jobs where I was unable to pay for a car, insurance, rent and groceries) are just scraping by. Interest has risen. So has inflation. Low comparatively to the 70's and 80's but in proportion to incomes, it's killing those that live pay check to pay check -- and I would say that a good portion of Americans do.
They aren't killing us in Iraq? One American soldier for very faulty intelligence is too many. If we want to fight terrorists, great -- I am all for killing them all! But a frontal attack is not the way to go. The French learned that with the Algerians in the 1950s (not to mention many terrorism experts and scholars frown upon it as well), and we will keep wasting money and resources (and American lives) until we change strategies. Running scared? Evolving, becoming more sophisticated. Ask any soldier in Iraq about changing tactics. Terrorist attacks on American soil are rare ('94, '96, '01), so I don't think that statistic alone is indicative of Bush's job -- he has taken some steps to fight terror, but not enough. Cold World tactics in a global, terrorist age are outmoded and only somewhat effective. We need to be forward looking.
You ignore the fact that while Bush has been fighting a semi-effective war on terror that he has failed miserably with other things back home. New Orleans, the insurance crisis, etc. You are only seeing what you want to see. I think Bush has done some things okay, but generally has failed as a president if you look at the situation this country is in. I really hope (regardless of party) that the next can start turning things around.

Well, I guess the economy is good for somebody. And I'm certainly employed, although, since i have been continuously employed since 1964, that's not really an issue with me.
But I can't help but notice my "modest" investments haven't come close to recouping the loses they sustained in in the first four years of the Bush administration. Surprisingly, my investment in local utilities has not performed well. Guess i should have changed my strategy and invested in Halliburton and Oil stocks.
But I have a moral problem with that. That's a big mistake for someone who was planning on retiring at 62 and now finds he'll be working for the rest of his natural life. But it would be blood money.
As for the war, aggression hasn't worked. General Petraeus had very good success in Mosul. He didn't do it by being a bully. He did it by being polite and respectful of the Iraqi people. He asked for permission, where that was practical, to do searches, and had the troops thank the people for their co-operation. He won "the hearts and minds" of the people, and they, in turn, helped him do his job.
If the troops they "surge" are the ones Petraeus requests, things will improve. The question is can the White House stay out of the way, and let this process happen? My bet is they'll send more combat troops, and ignore his request.
Not taking the advice of the military in military matters is a mistake as old as warfare and politics coming together. My guess is that this administration, when faced with making the choice between the two, will go with a political decision, and screw things up as many other administrations have in the past.
So, no, GWB is not the greatest president ever. Looking back over American history, there are many others more deserving of that appellation. He's not even close

I can't argue with what you say, mostly. I do think Bush gets it in the *** far more than he deserves but Greatest President? That I believe is going just a little far. I think our first President was our Greatest President. He could have been King. He could have been President For Life. But he was neither. He served his country and then went home to live out his life as peacefully as he could. When you think about what he could have done and what he did do, well, he has my vote for Greatest.

Before I answer this, let me get my handy-dandy crack pipe....
**EDIT after 50 minutes**
Welp, I've consulted my crystal stick and let me tell ya my dog has some interesting views of the world, but that's probably because he is mostly colorblind. My fish says no Bush isn't the greatest, but he just wants a castle in his tank, so it's hard to tell what he actually meant by that statement. If I weren't busy talking to my pets I'd tell you that he isn't the best President we've had, but he also hasn't proven to be the worst.....yet. Oh by the way crack kills, and makes you sign bogus bills. peace out homeless G.

Greatest of all time? No. But, history will prove him one of the best.
He has guts, determination and principles, 3 things the left in this country can't stand.
When they are gone and history can look back in an objective way they will be proved wrong
