I'm babysitting 2 gold fish and I'm wondering if the bubbles are supposed to come from the top of the filter.

This is the smallest tank I've ever seen. It's like maybe 2 gallons with a filter system and a light over the top. I'm wondering if the bubbles are suppossed to come from the top rear of the filter (which is suction to the side of the glass) or in front after passing through the charcoal filter. Also can the filter be cleaned or do I need to buy a new one. It just doesn't seem right, but what do I know? The owners are in Whales and I doubt they know much about it either.

the bubs should come from the front where it goes thourgh the filter and you can clean them with just water but it is best to buy a new one especailly if your baby sitting will be a lot longer good luck!

doesn't sound right, but I don't think it's harming anything. what kind of filter is it? most filters can be cleaned, or new cartridges can be purchased.

however, I'd be more worried about the size of the tank. 1 gallon isn't even big enough for one goldfish. goldfish get huge (10inches for fancies, 18inches for commons) and need 10 gallon when young 20 gallons when full grown to themselves. those goldfish should be in a minimum of 30 gallons. I know they're not your fish so you can't buy them a new tank, but maybe you'd like to advise the actual owners when they come back.

Bubbles are probably not hurting anything, but the water level may be low for the location of the filter. It may be sucking up a little air with the water. Add just a little water, and see if the bubbles decrease.

hi if your tank is that small, you most properly have one of those filters that you throw away when dirty, is the size of a flat mobile phone, maybe is green on the top and clear pastic at the bottom with stones and a small sponge, if so then you just buy it from the pet shop and replace the whole thing, x
