Do I need a 4H?

I'm getting ready to buy a new set of irons that are Taylormade 5-pw. I have a cheap 4H that I carry now instead of a 3i or 4i. It's an Knight Tec Plus 22 degree.

The question is should I be carrying a 3i and 4i or the 4h? And if I buy the Taylormade irons should I upgrade to the Taylormade 4h? Or being relatively new to the game, just go with the 5-pw and forget about the others?

You do not need to invest any more money over and/or beyond what you are planning to pay on the set itself and the sand wedge you have already posted a qestion about.

If the reason to buy a new 4h is anything other than because the one you have is in terrible condition than you would be foolish. Do not buy just to match the set. What the Taylormade offer 5-pw is more than adiquet for your level.

In addition to the set your going to buy the 4H you already have and the sand wedge I recomend will give you 8 clubs. I remember you mentioning in your first post that you have a putter already?! This would make 9 clubs. You could actually use the 4H off the tee if you like. Distance should not be a concern of yours right now. A 3i or 4i are not necessary because a 4h is much easier to hit.

All the clubs described above will serve you well this season. Pay attention to what clubs the rest of your foursome use in certain situations and the results they yeild and you will be able to aply them to your round.

There will be a limit to just how far you can improve on your own though, and lessons should then be considered. Post lesson rounds will yeild yet another obviouse jump in skill and confidence and this will be the correct time for you to consider a really nice set of clubs that will address your specific needs so that you can achieve the only realistic goal you should have... to beat the pants off everyone in your weekend foursome for some decent cash! LOL

Do not get either the 3i or 4i.

You might want to demo some other brand 4Hs and see if there is a significant material difference between your current one and a name brand model. If there is no material difference and you hit the current 4H you have well, considering how often you use it I probably would suggest you use that $$$ for a quality gap or sand wedge or putter.

Go to a local golf shop and try the 4h Taylor made. Most golfers now days use the Hybrids instead of the 3 or 4 iron, hybrids are easier to hit and control. I personally would get the taylor made hybid, but make sure you have something in the bag to replace your 3-4 irons.
