My eyelids itch so I scratch them, then they swell and later peel. Does anyone know what this is?

I have a 6mo old puppy- I've had him for 2 1/2 months. I read on webmd that I could have an allergic reaction to the dog but it just started 2 weeks ago and Benadryl hasn't helped.

It could be eczema (an allergic reaction on your skin). It looks like really dry, scaly skin and can be red and itchy. It's not dangerous, but it can be ugly. I have on my legs but it goes away after a few applications of prescription ointment. Go to your doctor and they'll be able to tell you what to do even if it doesn't happen to be eczema (even though it definitely sounds like it...).

Is this your first dog? After you got the dog, were you away from it for a time and then back? An allergy is formed after re-introduction; meaning that you have to be introduced to it, not be around it, and then re-introduced.

If benedryl isn't helping, it's probably not an allergy. Plus it just started 2 weeks ago and you've had the puppy much longer.

I would go see a good eye doctor. If it's an allergy, they will know. And if it's something else, they will know what it is. Your primary care doctor isn't going to have full knowledge on the eyes or on allergies.

Are your eyes leaking at all? Are they leaking? It may be a form of pink eye.

If you don't get an answer form the eye doc, go see an allergist.

you may have developed an allergy. mine started the same way - my eyes itched all the time and if i scratched, they would swell up. my allergy turned out to be from grapes. i do not react to benadryl, either, when suffering an allergic reaction. you should get tested for allergies.
