any suggestions for rhyming?
My 5 year old is having trouble learning rhyming in school. I have done the basics with her at home. Ex: cat, hat, bat house, mouse
dog, log, etc. she has those down. But I received a note from the teacher about the rhyming, and she didnt really specify on where she needs the help. Any suggestions on books (titles please) or flash cards or something else I could do to help her. Thanks.

Dr. Suess has a lot of rhyming also you can just go to a book store and look around for rhyming books. I would also call the teacher and find out what exactly she needs help with. Good Luck!

Definitiely Dr. suess, or you could make up some short limerick on your own too. Just none about a girl from "Nantucket" or anything though.(Lol! kidding)
Rhyming is more than sounding alike it is also about rhythym too. SO limericks are a good learning tool for rhyming.
Maybe she is getting rhyming confused with syllabuls or something?( ie. maybe she thinks Car and Fur might rhyme because they have the same letter at the end and only one syllabul? ) Some kids get confused by this.
All I know for sure is,if her teacher was vague I would contact the teacher and ask about it.

Make up some short sentences such as :
The bug in the rug gave me a hug. Perhaps having the rhyme interspersed with other words will make it more noticeable that some words rhyme. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/rhymes/matching/ This site does have a fee but looks like it would offer you some assistance in helping your child.

Dr. Seuss
The Cat in the Hat
The Fox in Socks
Green Eggs and Ham

There are loads of children's books that can help you. Try using rap songs (obviously not explicit ones) and help her pick out the rhymes. You could do this with other genres of music as well. Let her hi-lite the rhyming words.
