Does anyone out there ever dream about being able to fly?
I have one dream that I don't quite understand. In it I am able to fly or hover/glide. Sometimes I start out on the top of a hill and jump off head first with my arms extended straight out to my sides. I glide through the air to the bottom, where I rotate and land on my feet. The location of the jump and the height involved changes, but it is always the same. People, I don't know who they are, watch me do it and are amazed. I have never crash landed and I cannot remember anything I may dream about either before or after gliding.
Any dream interpreters out there?
The glide is always from the top of a hill. I never start out from level ground and flap my arms, always gliding downward.
I have had this dream for at least 25 years.

Gosh I love this kind of thing. Remember though, that ultimately only you can truly figure out what the symbolism means to you but here is my interpretation of what you said. Personally I love flying dreams!
The discussion of your dreams gives you the opportunity to explore the symbolism that your subconscious mind uses to communicate with you. Often much of this symbolism runs through all our dreams. Often the same message will be sent over and over again until you understand what you are being told. Our conscious minds just have trouble catching on.
One of the loveliest parts of our sleep is astral travel. This is simply the spirit taking a break from the confines of our limited bodies to travel and visit whoever we wish. Like telepathy, astral travel is no weird New Age concept but a knowledge we are born with. We routinely astral travel approximately 3 times a week and these are the dreams that lie at the core of most of our most memorable dreams.
Personally, I have had many astral travel dreams and the one thing I remember was flying over fields, endless forests, oceans and ending up in places, with people I loved far away. Even a few decades later some of those dreams are still as vivid as when I first had them. In one, I actually found a road change on a route we were planning to travel! We routinely travel the globe and check on people we love. Although my life has been full, some of these dreams are among my most precious memories.
However, if you fly with a device, chances are it is a dream more than astral travel. There is nothing wrong with you for such dreams, honest! Might I suggest that, since you know you have these dreams frequently, before you drift off, consciously remind yourself to remember one new item in detail to bring back to your waking hours? Write it all down as soon as you wake up because these things disappear like a puff of smoke the moment you get up and start your daily routine. This gives you have more to work with.
Let us say you remember a tree in your dream. Trees represent the intellect, not your IQ but the relationship between you and your mind. Was it nearby? Was it far away? Was it in summer finery or was it shivering in the cold? Was it close to a house? The sun in dreams is your father. Do you see the sun? If so, is it nearby or far away? Is it a blazing sun or the watery weakness of winter? Do you see rays from it? All of these things have meaning if you can only remember them. A mother is symbolized by water. Houses are a whole subject entirely!
Many dreams are forgotten or lost by the time we awaken fully, but that is not usually the case with dreams of flying. They are FUN and they are often remembered vividly for weeks. In general, they also mean good things for us. We feel on top of the world and are soaring to great heights in our minds when we fly. Flying dreams fall under a category of dreams where you become aware that you are dreaming, known as lucid dreaming. Many dreamers have described the ability to fly in their dreams as an exhilarating, joyful, and liberating experience.
The interpretation of flying dreams is fairly simple straightforward. Something is generally going RIGHT in our lives! Occasionally, we may be flying to avoid something, but the flying in and of itself is still an enjoyable dream activity, and the WAY we do it may tell us more about ourselves than the actual flying.
If you have wings, there is a strong analogy to Angels and Birds. You feel that you are a strong force going into the future and that you have high principles and ethics that most mortals don't have. You perhaps feel that you have risen above the riff-raff and are soaring to new heights with a clear vision.
If you are floating or flying close to the ground by flapping your hands or arms or peddling your feet, this is an indication that you have lots of determination and that no matter how hard it gets, you feel you will succeed if you stay on course. You believe that relief from any setbacks is imminent.
If you are in an airplane or another flying device, your dream signifies that you feel proud of your accomplishments and that you expect and get recognition and support from those around you. You are not soaring into the clouds on your own yet, but you feel the freedom that success and respect from others brings.
If you are flying with ease and enjoying the scene and landscape below, then it suggests that you are on top of a situation. You have risen above something. It may also mean that you have gained a different perspective on things. Flying dreams and the ability to control your flight is representative of your own personal sense of power.
Having difficulties staying in flight indicates a lack of power in controlling your own circumstances. You may be struggling to stay aloft and stay on course. Things like power lines, trees, or mountains may further obstruct your flight. These barriers represent a particular obstacle or person who is standing in your way in your waking life. You need to identify who or what is hindering you from moving forward.
If you are feeling fear when you are flying or that you feel that you are flying too high, and then it suggests that you are afraid of challenges and of success.
In reality, we do not have the ability to fly. Thus such dreams may represent that which is beyond our physical limitations. In your mind, you can be anybody and do anything. Another way of interpreting flying dreams is that these dreams symbolize your strong mind and will. You feel undefeatable and nobody can tell you what you cannot do and accomplish. Undoubtedly these dreams leave you a great sense of freedom.
Source(s): Can someone PLEASE tell me what I have said to offend someone to get a thumbs down? I still do not understand this at all! This is not cut and pasting, this is work I have done to help the Asker. I have just spent almost an hour remembering and pulling data out of my head from years of working with dreams. What did I do to offend? - toxicPoisonLv 41 decade ago
Because you start at the top of a hill, that can represent that you have reached the climax of an event in your life, or that change is going to come. You don't fall, so the change will not be negative. You fly and can therefore control the outcome. You are in control of your future. You can do something to make it amazing. You also want people to notice your achievements, or you want more friends.
by the way, if you ask for a dream interpretation from someone who believes in Freud's theories, all the dreams will have something to do with sex!

Use a hang glider like I do. Same idea, start at the top of the hill. Start runnning, and after about 6 steps, you're flying. Really flying. Visit my 360 page.
I've had dreams like yours and they were really enjoyable. Probably why I like flying so much in the first place.
As for interpreting dreams, my sense is that this particular dream is a good dream, a confidence-building dream. Never crashed, huh? We'll soon change that.

You don't need a dream interpreter to tell you this. Everyone has dreamed about flying one time or another...some people all the time. I have always dreamed of fllying as well. In my dream, I'm flying through a city and everyone is "ooohing" and "ahhhhing" at me and I'm sooooo happy. I don't even really have a desire to fly or be oooohed and ahhhhed at, but, shoot, it's a dream. I also have dreams that I'm a man....those are weird and a dream when I'm deaf and mute and all I want is for somebody to give me a piece of pizza. Dreams are weird, dear....nothing you can do about it. And there is always some "professional" out there who will analyze your dreams for a fee, but he will never know what is really going on and neither will you. Your mind is a puzzle that you or I will never solve. Enjoy your dreams and be lucky they aren't nightmares.

I have no idea what this dream means, but I have too dreamed about being able to levitate. I don't actually fly in my dream, like superman. I more or less just lift up off the ground, and can go short distances. I 2 would like to know if anyone thinks there is a meaning to all this.

I dream that I can fly and it is the most awesome dream of all, especially when I can control it! Also when having an OBE (out of body experience). That is the ultimate.
