Where is a good place to get a prom dress?
Where should I look (either online or in an actual store) for a gorgeous prom dress? ;) thanks

BCBG has really great prom dresses that aren't way too expensive, yet don't look cheap and/or tacky. if you live near a nice major mall, there might be a store - you can check out their website for locations and dresses. they're also stocked at most major department stores, and have their own boutique in most lord and taylor stores. if they're not your style, nicole miller and betsey johnson also have great dresses. also, look for boutiques that specialize in formal wear. if you live in an urban and/or wealthy area, there should be at least a couple.
i would not, however, suggest online shopping for dresses. although i do a lot of online shopping myself, formal dresses are a difficult breed because of the many fit issues involved. a lot of dresses look very different on models than they do on you, and you can't experiment with trying on different dresses. also, if you buy a dress online and need to get it tailored or you need to send it back, you might be cutting it very close. my only other advice is to find a dress as soon as possible - shops can run out of sizes very quickly. also, if you buy your dress from an actual shop, ask if they have a registry. this usually only occurs in boutiques, but registering your dress ensures that you and only you will be wearing your dress come prom night. good luck and have fun!

I'd say department stores. I love Dillard's. They have very nice dresses. The only problem with that is that it's a popular place to buy a dress and one of the worst nightmares anybody can have on prom is another person wearing the same exact dress!
You can also go to this store called Camille La Vie. It's a smallish store and it has many pretty dresses. If there's not a store in your area then you can go to its web site.
www.camillelavie.com
I've also seen this store called Gia in the mall. It has really nice dresses too.
Just make sure that you try it on before you buy it if you can.
Hope you find your dream dress! :D

Look around online at different stores and see if you like any that you could go to a try on. I know some stores like David's Bridel have prom dresses and they will have this thingy where you sign that you got that dress and they wont let anyone from your school get the same one.

don't buy online becuase if u do u won't get to try the dress on so it might not fit and once u get it u might not like it on u or it might not fit then it will take awhile to send it back and get a new one. i would suggest finding a small cute little store that no one really knows about or has heard of. (don't go to macys or sears or nordstrom because u might be at the prom and u might see someone with the same dress)

I got all of my dresses at Dillards and at the mall there was this store called Vanity that I used to shop at sometimes too... they have really cute dresses but they are better for dances like coronation or spring fling... I would stick to shopping in a store just because you really need to try the dress on... internet sizes can fit differently and a dress that looks great on a webpage, doesn't always look best on you. Good luck!

Get an idea of what you want from looking on-line. But when you are ready to buy, go to a store so you can try it on. Prom dresses are hard to size.

Windsor is a shop that sells a wide variety of prom dresses. They have numerous locations and you can also purchase a dress on line if you choose. Here is the link if you would like to check Windsor out. http://www.windsorstore.com/shop_category.aspx?id=...
If you are looking for a "designer" brand gown, you can go to a Loehmanns store or look on line on http://www.smartbargins.com/ for a reasonably priced designer dress. Hope you find the dress of your dreams!

It's good to first get an idea of your budget and style - do you want a simple but charming $50 sheath dress from JC Penny's, or a frothy debutante bell-skirt from Jessica McClintock, something sleek and modern from Macy's, or something unusual and ecletic from a boutique store? Would you like to make your own by sewing together a few elegant slips? Do you want to look like a particular celebrity? What sort of styles compliment your figure and coloring?
Decide what you want first, then start looking, it will save you a lot of confusion. Popular choices include Macy's, Jessica McClintock, Nordstrom's, and boutique shops in your local area.

Our School has a dress sale every year.
Where girls sell there dresses from the previous year or formals from weddings and other functions 1/2 off. The girls make a little money and they all get dresses on the cheap!
They also invite girls from other schools and have the sale in March. It works great.
