Warmed up milk bottle, save or trash?
If I warm up an 8 oz. bottle of whole milk for my 16 mo. old for about 45 sec. in the microwave and she does not want it, is it OK to put back in the fridge to warm and serve later or do I need to dump it?

I come from both sides -- physician and mom. Being a physician we learn that you should dump a bottle after a baby has sucked on it. However, most of my physician co-workers don't follow this rule 100%. If your baby is sick, by all means throw it away. However, when I was pumping I never wanted to throw away valuable (and hard-earned) milk if my son wouldn't take his bottle, so I'd put it back in the fridge and we never had any problems. Microwaving the bottle doesn't introduce any additional bacteria, so if your child didn't suck on the bottle there is NO reason not to put it back in the fridge.
Bottom line, it's most likely pretty safe. Think about it -- would you worry about taking a sip of hot cocoa and putting it in the fridge and reheating it later? NO! We as parents tend to worry too much about silly things we ourselves never think twice about. Save yourself some money and use the milk for the next bottle.

warming a bottle in the microwave can cause hot pockets in the milk which can burn the baby. You should warm it under the water from the sink. Also, nutrients are lost when microwave is used. I would dump this bottle.

If she sucked on it at all, then there is the potential for bateria to have entered and you should trash it. If it sat out for more than 1 hour it should be trashed. If you only heated it, she didn't touch it, and its been less than 1 hour, stick it in the fridge.

I had twins who have been preemies and grow to be pumping for the two considered one of them. i might consistently fill the botle with 2-3 oz..because of fact I hated dropping any milk in the event that they desperate they did no longer desire any. It grow to be a discomfort having to re-fill nonetheless, and that i cried once I had to toss milk I labored so no longer undemanding to maintain/produce. A nurse visted us as quickly as each and every week to confirm on progess etc. She informed me that breast milk is effective re-heated and re-saved. something approximately anti-bacterial properties or something? formulation is yet another tale. besides, like I reported, they have been preemies and by this way, i grow to be waiting to supply them breast milk till at last in basic terms final week! (8 mos.) They have been effective... no issues in any respect! in basic terms replace the nipple and use top away for next feed and suited up with sparkling pumped milk.

It is safe to put it back in the fridge. The refrigerating and the re-heating might zap more nutrients than the first time, but it's still safe.

You may keep it out for 1 hour. If she doesn't want it after that time, then yes throw it out.
