A dehumidifier would work. plug it in and every 12 hours check it to drain water. Do this for the first two or three day then you should be able to leave it and check once a day or week.

O.K. Mold is extremely hazardous to your health, so be careful. It is airbourn before it is visible. This can cause extremely horrible health problems. This is also a sign that cockroaches could be in your house as the two tend to go hand in hand. Mold is typically found in older houses with poor insulation and some kind of cracks on the outside. Condensation and rain allows moisture in the walls which festers and mold results. Ultimatley, the sheet rock may need to be replaced along with adding insulation to prevent further problems. X-14 can be sprayed on the wall to kill the visible mold. An air purifyer would be a good investment. I am not sure what the legal requirements in Australia are, but here in California, if you are a renter and you have mold, your landlord is legally responsible to fix the issues. If you have small kids, please don't ignore this. They are more prone to become ill from this than adults...

I spray bleach Mold and it clears right up. IN most cases Mold spores found in the air accumulate agains and again until you find the mother load of spores normally behind the walls in some cases. Once you kill the spore you kill the mold.

if your downstairs is not completely undergroud you could put a few vents in the walls, like what many older houses have. you could get cheap windows from say an old toilet block that you may find at the salvage yards.

A dehumidifier will do the job. If you use a portable one, make sure it is drained daily OR connect it so it drains into a sump or floor drain.
