  • miserable and in pain - in early labour? 40+ weeks?

I am 40 weeks and 5 days. I am 3cm dialated which i got to without ever noticing a braxton hicks contraction or anything. Last night my water broke at 8pm. I went to the hospital and they confirmed this and sent me home giving me 3 days and 4 nights to have the baby naturally before they'll induce me. I pretty much didn't sleep all night because i started getting contractions about an hour after falling asleep about 1am.

By 3.20 i was certain i was having contractions, not just discomfort and i timed them to be about every 5 or 6 minutes. I called the hospital and the woman told me to come in when they are 5 min apart and 40+ seconds long. I told her they practically already were... then she said to come in when the pain got so bad i couldn't stand it. She said that if i could talk through them they were not strong enough yet.

I was in more pain lying down than anyother position but so tired that it was worth it to lie down because i could almost fall asleep in the 4 mins between the pain so i was quite relaxed most of the time. I spent most of the time for the next 8 hours laying down almost sleeping plus i spent an hour in the bath, about 20 mins walking, a few showers. Going to the toilet is very uncomfortable but the stronger pains make me want to go #2. Standing and walking are less painful that laying or sitting.

The contractions sometimes were 4 mins apart for a while, but sometimes would go back to 5 or even 6. Occasionally they were less like 2 but then they'd be weaker.

The pains are in my back and in the lower front and feel like the worst period pains ever. They vary in intensity. Sometimes its not too bad and sometimes i do feel like i can't talk when they happen.

I called the hospital at about 1pm to tell them it was basically the same as it had been since 4am.. They told me to come in to check the babys heart rate etc. The woman who saw me told me that what i am experiencing is not true, proper labour yet and it will get much worse! She said to come back when they last 60 seconds and don't vary depending on how i am sitting/standing/laying And when they are so strong i can't cope.

I have not been too afraid of labour but hearing this is pretty scary as i am already experiencing a lot of pain some contractions and if this is not real labour and it gets so much worse i can't imagine how bad it will be. I thought i had a high pain threshold... until now!

I am worried that this can go on for days and not be real labour and i won't have slept for days because the pain is too much to sleep through.

She said there is nothing you can do to bring on proper labour and walking would just wear me out but not make a difference to labour.

What is my question? Well can you share similar stories? Is labour always so painful you can't stand it? I'm not stupid, i know its painful but i thought i could handle it before but now i'm not sure.

I was not expecting this - i didn't know that it was likely that my waters could break and cause such painful contractions every 5 mins that are not even labour that could go for days...

i am still not sure that i will know when is the right time to go back. I am somewhat worried that they are stronger than she thinks because i do have a high pain threshold and she is judging me by my reaction and i don't appear to be reacting strongly enough... I am also not sure i am timing their length right. Do you time the length of the pain in the back and the front if they kind of move from back to front?

Oh she also said that as my back hurts that the baby is probably postirier. But the baby has been in the same spot for about 8 weeks and nobody else has told me she is posterier... How can i tell? I would have throught if she had her belly/feet outwards i would feel kicks going outwards, rather than up and to the sides...

Can anyone ease my mind at all. I'm very frustrated and tired and in pain. I have only slept about 2 hours in almost 24 hours.

  • I'm due today & feeling emotional, depressed, frustrated and bored... feels like she will never come.?

Can anyone make me feel better?

I have been hanging about with nothing much on the schedule waiting for her to come for 3 weeks now and today is the due date and still no action. I feel like she will never come. I feel really emotional and keep crying today. I am very frustrated. I have been trying to keep busy but its hard to pretend you are not desperately waiting for something when you are. I lost my mucus plug 4 days ago and at last check up 6 days ago i was at 2cm so something is happening but the waiting is torture.

Please don't tell me to relax and try and enjoy my last time without her. I am going insane with 3 weeks of trying to do that. I have tried everything - walking, dancing, sex, chili, hot baths, pineapple... you name it. I have tried psyching myself up and visualising my body starting labour.

I guess i want someone to tell me that there is no reason that in 10 minutes time labour will start even though i don't feel like it will. Give me some hope, even if it doesn't happen that way. I feel so miserable today. I don't know what to do with myself any longer.

    Thanks for listening.

  • How to make a series of tickets with all different numbers? Can you buy a stamp for that or something?

I want to make some tickets and i want them to have individual numbers so they are unique. How can i do this?

I would make an image in photoshop and then print them about 6 to a page but i want every ticket to have a different number. How? Can you buy stamps that put numbers on things and the numbers automatically click over after each stamping? What would that kind of stamp be called so i can search for it?

  • In Australia, can an employer reduce the hours, and consequently the weekly wage, of an employee on salary?

If you are hired full time on the basis of $X,000/year salary (ie not an hourly rate), can your boss reduce your hours each week and pay you less than the amount of salary you agreed on? it would seem to me that is illegal, if you were hired on a full time salary basis, they have to pay you that salary right?

for the sake of easy maths, lets say i agreed to work full time for $26,000 a year. And i have been getting $500 /wk for the last 6 months and doing 40 hours a week.

Is it legal for the boss to now descide that from now on i will only work 36 (10% less) hours a week and get paid $450 a week (10% less), which is an annual income of $23,400 - (also 10%less)

If there is no written contract, but most australians don't have written contracts, just verbal one and payslips for the last 6 months stating the salary is $26,000

please only answer of you know about the rules in australia, as these things vary very much from country to country.

  • How is property spilt in a divorce?

My mum wants to get rid of her husband, but she won't because she is scared she will loose the house.

I want her to get rid of him before they retire and she has no possible way of paying him off and she'll be stuck with him.

She originally bought the property herself 30 years ago, even before she met her 1st husband (dad) and they build a new house on the property. When she divorced dad she got the house (she got the kids and the house and dad was paid $50,000 - house was worth about 450,000 at the time)

She is a low income earner and has never had full time work, but has (and still does) worked part time. The only thing she had before the marrage was the house (no savings or investments)

She has been re-married for about 7 years. He lives in her house. He didn't have any property when they met but he had some cash and he helped her pay off the $50,000 mortgage mum had taken out to pay off dad.

The house is worth about a million dollars, due to property price increases over the last 30 years - not cause she paid that much for it!!!

In her will, only 25% of the house goes to him (the other 75% = 25% each for each of mums 3 kids)

He has a high paying job but he doesn't share his money with her, he keeps it and gives a weekly amount to the housekeeping.

He has a lot of superannuation, she would have comparatively very little.

Thats about all the details i can think of... other than my brother and sister - both in their 20's, also still live in the house.

How do you think it would turn out and why?

Is it just as simple as they are married so everything is split 50/50? Do you have to fight it out in court to have the extenuating cercumstances - like that she owned the house for 4 times longer than the marrage lasted... and that they he doesn't share his wage with her- taken into account? the fact that she put in everything she had (the house) and he didn't even share his money!!!

or is it standard procedure to evaluate these things? how does it work in AUSTRALIA?

  • Do i have to go to work for train on my day off? ?

I am on a salary, i work full time.

Next week i am expected to go to work on my day off to do training for 1 hour in the middle of the day. This means i can't go away for the weekend, just for 1 hour of training.

I was given 36 hours notice.

Do i legally have to go? I doubt i'll get paid as i don't get paid for extra hours. I have no contracts of employment saying i do or don't have to do this training.

What can they do if i don't go. It doesn't affect my ability to do the job by not doing the training.

    PS i'm australian

  • Does anyone else thing this "carbs" fad is stupid?

I think its mental that everyone now has this idea that carbs make you fat. Don't people realise that before 2 years ago when "no carbs became cool" people still managed to have succesful diets and lose weight!?!

I couldn't belive my eyes to see a question someone wrote the other day "what is a healthy alternative to rice?" Since when is rice unhealthy? You are MENATLLY unhealthy if you think rice is bad for you!

You cannot survive without eating carbs. Its scary if people think they are being "healthy" if they don't eat carbs! No carbs diets is NOt the type of diet you can maintain long term.

    Anyone else agree?
