Please have your doctor refer you to a cancer specialist. Then the waiting and guessing can stop.

Maybe your mother should see an otorhinolaryngologists (ORL) ,a doctor who specializes in your ear,eye ,throat and mouth ....if she is not satisfied by the two doctors she has seen...it never hurts to get another's opinion........there could be a lot of different causes for your mom's symptoms........so, don't jump to the worst conclusion ... here is a few web sites that have information on the matter......

    lie bumps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lie_Bumps

    http://search.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplusEncy/query?DI...

by the way, hearing that two different doctors don't believe this is cancer is a really good sign....

I hope your mom gets to feeling better.....best wishes......

quite possibly oral lichen planus which is a rather common oral health problem. This is not cancer but is a pain to deal with. LP can have many appearances and this is another problem that can cause difficulty in getting a proper diagnosis. LP is usually treated with topical corticosteroids which are difficult to use in the mouth. I'd see a good dermatologist or ENT Dr as they would treat LP frequently. LP is hard to treat and often comes back so don't get discouraged if it comes back repeatedly.

does your mom use toothpaste or mouthrinse for whitening?

this is occuring more and more with those who use products to whiten teeth.

i doubt it's cancer...if she doesnt use whitening rinses or toothpaste, she might have a vitamin deficiency or another type such as magnesium ect....

oral lichen-is a rash usually seen in those with liver disease. your mother might want to have her liver checked and an actual hepatitis b or c test as sometimes the alt and ast levels aren't always elevated (doctors look at a liver panel and assume all is okay, but with liver disease this isn't always the case)

    good luck!
