Can you help my 1999 Buick La Sabre ?

Sometimes when I try to start my car the security light stays on and it won't do anything. I take the key out of the ignition switch and wait for about 5 or 10 minutes and the light goes out. Then it will start. This has been going on for about a year now and none of the dealers seem to know what's wrong. It only happens about once a month and I am tired of it sitting at the shop for days while they try to get it to do it's thing without results. HELP!

I believe your year has the PASSKEY II system. Do you have a little pellet in the ignition key? If so, that's likely the culrpit. Try cleaning the metal contact with alcohol but that doesn't always work. It may not be making a proper connection due to years of being worn down. You might need to order a new key from the dealer.

  • the key is probably worn out .i had the same problem with my1993. i switched to the spare key and it was fine after that.the chip on the key gets worn down and doesnt make conntact inside the switch.try another key.
