Substitute for sweet sixteen cake?

At my sweet 16 I don't want a cake. So far I've thought of making individual, mini ice-cream (cup)cakes for everyone or renting a chocolate fountain.

Which one or any other suggestions?

Oh, I think both are excellent ideas. People like things that they can do themselves with a minimum of muss and fuss, so a chocolate fountain would satisfy that. If you let everyone create their own ice cream sundaes, that would be fun, too.

(-: If it's a March birthday, you could have a Mad Hatter Tea Party. There's a big slice of dessert at every place setting (each one is different) and a mini-pot of tea (again, all different). People sit down at random, have one bit of dessert and one splash of tea. Then (bringing their spoon and cup along) everyone moves one place setting over. Again, one bite and one sip, and move on to the next one. Everyone gets to try a bite of everything, and it's kind of wacky to be moving down the table.

My kids love the huge cookie cakes. Cupcakes are a great idea and at stores like Walmart, you can buy a stand that lets you arrange them in tiers. I love chocolate fountains. You can make a regular white or yellow cake and tear it into pieces to be dipped into the chocolate. One year, my daughter didn't want a cake, but wanted chocolate chip cookies. I bought 2 boxes of mix. I made tons of cookies and made one kinda large one that I decorated with her name and stuck a candle in it. I just piled them all on a platter. Everyone loved it.

Happy Sweet Sixteen! And why just have one option for a dessert? How about mini-cheesecakes dipped in chocolate, chocolate covered strawberries, cupcakes in different flavors, a white chocolate fountain with pound cake and fruit, mini-tarts with lemon curd or chocolate silk.....mostly, just have fun!

Excellent ideas, but you can bet that kids will go crazy over the chocolate fountain. I have found a website that will list where you can rent chocolate fountains from. Listed in the source links.

do a fortune cookie recipe and fill in with slips of paper with different ideas on them, like a truth or dare, or fun charades kind of game, where each piece of paper would have a different movie title or song title to act out. really, you could do alot with a fortune cookie kind of game, and there is a whole lot of simple recipes for fortune cookies out there. go online to iVillage, or Better Homes and Gardens, or just Google the recipe, and you will be amazed how easy it is to make these cookies! Plus, it could tie in a whole theme for your party, and allow for a multitude of different games you could play with the inserted paper. Happy Birthday!! Have fun!
