What makes a TV digital?

What makes a TV digital and what else is their other than digital?

That should say "what is THERE other than digital"

    digital cable is the best on the market other than high def, and basically it is how the image and audio is compressed and sent to you------ it is compressed so much more than regular analog cable that you supposedly get a better picture and sound- a good example of this would be roads say it is rush hour traffic and on one side of the road you have a 2 lane road-analog that is how much is getting through on your cable and on the other side you have an 8 lane road- digital- and then you have a 24 lane road high def hope this makes sense it is the easiest way to explain it

    Analog. The 'old' technology!

    In any case, sound and picture start as analog information which the encoder (video camera, audio mics etc) translate into data. Your TV accepts the data and translates it back into analog information so you can hear it (the loud speaker

    pushes back and forth drives air waves (analog) so you can understand it, and the picture tube translates data into light waves (analog) you can see! The old sets processed all information in analog form, never converting it into data streams.

    That, in layman's terms!! Complicated question, actually!
