Who is responsible for "wages not reported" when employer fails to send one of your w2 s in 2005?

IRS has notified me that I owe tax for wages not reported. I received one W2. I did not know there was more than oneand employer did not send it.

Update:

This is the same company. They merged with another co. in August 2005. I think this is where the problem came in. Same co., one W2, The Wages looked reasonable. I didn't know that there was another w2. They didn't send it.

The answer of course is that you, yourself are responsible for notifying the IRS of ALL wages earned during a tax year.

The IRS receives their copies of W2's and 1099's and if you didn't receive yours then, it's up to you to contact your employer(s) to obtain your copy...

but, you still have to claim all taxable wages on your tax return.

If this was a w2, then the employer withheld taxes and fica. Did you save your check stubs? You are responsible for your taxes, but your employer is responsible for filing and withholding taxes. The IRS will want taxes, interest, and penalties. You may get out of the penalties if you explain that you did not receive the w2. Was this a w2 from the same employer, or a second employer where you held a second job in the same year? If it was the same employer then all information is on the one w2, if it was a second employer then you should have known you needed another w2.

they have till Feb 2d (immediately) this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days because of the fact the thirty first fell on a weekend. enable as much as 4 or5 days for mail time. in case you do no longer acquire it by Feb fifteenth, you are able to then call the IRS and record a lacking W-2 complaint. The IRS might actually assist you in securing your W-2 or authorize you to apply an option technique to rfile your earnings and withholdings. BTW, in the journey that your business enterprise replaced into based in Europe and additionally you have been working in Europe they are in all probability no longer required to record US payroll taxes on your ecu earnings or supply you a W-2. in basic terms US companies are required to pay US payroll taxes on US voters working for them exterior of the US, and then on condition which you're working for the US branch or subsidiary. in case you have been working for a ecu subsidiary you will no longer acquire a W-2.

Pretty much you are... request another copy from the employer... (I had to do this with my Federal pension last year.. though I get 1099R's not W2's but same premise)

You are solely responsible for the filing of an accurate tax return. You know where you worked and how many W-2s you should have had. If you failed to track one of them down and file a proper return, it's ENTIRELY on you.
