You can read about it here:

And on this site they claim a record shot of 2500 meters.

I'm not sure but you maybe talking about the new .416 Barrett. The rifle fires a 400 grain .416 bullet out of a necked down .50 caliber shell at 3250fps delivering 9379.50 ft lbs of muzzle energy from a 29 inch barrel.
The caliber and rifle are Ronnie Barrett's answer to all of the .50 caliber bans in the U.S.

I am not familiar with the "416", however: I once owned a Barrett .50cal anti-sniper rifle. It's max effective range against a man sized target was about 3.5 clicks, with a Leopold 5x11 on top. Two km would be about as far as anyone could score a hit with any rifle using open sites, I think.

Yes it is called a Barret 50 Caliber sniper riffle (after the inventor). it was previewed on the Program Mail Call. It is a moderately waited weapon. it uses a tripod but has a remarkable balance system that reduces recoil tremendously. It has both single fire and rapid fire capability. it holds 3 rounds in the clip. with plans to increase the clip size to 5. It can penetrate concrete and steel plate. it was designed to demoralize and intimidate the enemy. and it does a good job...
